When Horses Fly

The Israeli NSO Group was named in Time’s 2022 list of the 100 most influential companies in the world. But their success has been marred by allegations that their surveillance software (called Pegasus) was used to spy on journalists, activists -and political leaders. Allegations that it was, and is, a tool for dictators.

NSO Group denies the allegations and says its customers are carefully screened. NSO Group says they only sell their spyware for use against criminals and terrorists.

The problem, of course, is who gets to decide who is a criminal or terrorist.

Blame Israel

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy is apparently positioning Ukraine to be the new Israel and he expects Washington to offer Ukraine security guarantees similar to those Jerusalem has received.

He also claims that had Jerusalem agreed to supply Kyiv with military aid, the Russian-Iranian partnership would not have emerged.

There’s a word for Zelenskyy’s allegations and demands.
The word is Chutzpah!

What Next?

What Next? In the middle of "the battling Jews" we have suddenly discovered that the "Arab Sector" is plagued with organized crime, which has been growing and spreading while "we" were not looking. That bubble has finally burst and our Prime Minister has promised to "Fight Organized Crime in the Arab sector."

That reminded me of the old pulp fiction days of Raymond Chandler, Dashiell Hammett, and Mickey Spillane and the posters that sold their movies and books to us.

So I drew Bibi in a parody style of one of those posters.

The Trump Mugshot

How did the 45th President of the United States manage to do it? There's a Plan

Yes, there's a Plan.

It's a plan for a hospital, an airport and a brand new Jewish city (to be called Shamir) in the heartland of the Land of Israel.

Do we adopt it? No? Why not? Because it will be condemned by our friends and foes alike. My first instinct was to draw a "do-as-I-say-not-as-I-do" cartoon. A cartoon that condemns the double-standard that Israel is judged by.

It's a Real Whodunit

Today's cartoon only "works" if you remember the weird news about the Wagner Group anti-Putin march which ended with the "yes he's alive" versus "no he isn't" debate. To get a laugh out of you also requires that you heard the news about the "Plane Crash" and reacted cynically with the assumption that Putin did it.

Prigozhin's death will probably remain a whodunit puzzle alongside the many assassinations that escape a satisfying solution.

At the very least we know that he did not commit suicide

Reform On Hold?

Years ago, Israel was split over the withdrawal from Gaza. There were large public demonstrations, for and against. One side used orange as its color. The other wore and marched under a blue banner.

Dry Bones finds new home

“WELCOME ABOARD Yaakov!” is the last line in a press release published on Monday by JNS – Jewish News Syndicate. The Yaakov in question is Brooklyn-born cartoonist Yaakov Kirschen, 85, who relocated to Israel in 1971. He began a long career at The Jerusalem Post in January 1973, with his internationally syndicated Dry Bones cartoon, which was a wry interpretation of current events.

Dry Bones kept appearing in publications around the world after Kirschen and the Post parted company.

Highly respected not only as a cartoonist but also as a public speaker, Kirschen is a member of both America’s National Cartoonists Society and the Israeli Cartoonists Society.

The cartoons he produced for the Post were on occasion reprinted in The New York Times, Time magazine, The Wall Street Journal, other major media publications, and of course numerous Jewish newspapers.

The Dry Bones story has been covered by CBS, CNN, Forbes and other media outlets. Kirschen has also published books, including an intriguing Passover Haggadah, which is his personal take on tradition both in text and cartoon.

Kirschen says he’s proud to be at JNS, where he can welcome old fans and provide them with cartoon updates on what is happening in Israel and the Jewish world. JNS for its part, has stated that it’s looking forward to bringing Dry Bones to its readers for years to come.

Fix the Court

I know that this posting is not going to be received well if you support the anti-Gov't demonstrations here in Israel. This posting is simply to explain why the Court needs to be "fixed".

Simply put, there is no check or balance mechanism to restrain an all-powerful Supreme Court's dictates.

To begin with I assume that we all understand that the anti-Judicial Reform demonstrations are not REALLY demonstrations against Judicial Reform. They are REALLY anti Bibi Netanyahu demonstrations. And they’ve been organized and led and directed by the losers who can’t accept the results of our having elected this new Israeli government.

However, for you, if you ARE interested in knowing what the problem is with the Israeli Supreme Court system (and there is one!), I drew this simple Cartoon to allow Mr. Shuldig to explain it to you.

Abraham Discords

U.S. President Joe Biden’s attempt to cobble together some kind of Israeli-Saudi normalization deal before the 2024 American election is, it seems to me, doomed to fail. It feels like Joe has been led astray by Tom Friedman at the New York Times. Unfortunately Friedman has the U.S. president’s ear and the trust of a great many American Jews. And that is not doing us much good. He is working hard to depose the democratically elected government of the Jewish state and THAT is beyond the pale.

The Magician

Ping Pong

Today's cartoon predicts what I think will be the next phase in the battle between the Supreme Court and the Knesset. But is it a battle between two branches of the government ? or is it a battle between two strong Israelis (Chief Justice Esther Hayut and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu)? I solved that problem (for me, at least) by drawing Hayut and Bibi, but labeling them as "The Supreme Court" and "The Knesset".
