I was going to post a Shana Tova cartoon today, but I came upon this while looking and could not resist. Yesterday, I was in a Druze village in the north and heard about the terrible situation of the Syrian Druze and how the UN is not only not protecting them, but acually helping with the effort to wipe them out. (Same as they are enabling Hamas in Gaza)

Murder on the Temple Mount

The July 21 1951 news report in the Guardian:

King Abdullah of Jordan was assassinated by an Arab yesterday at the entrance to the El Aqsa Mosque, in the Old City of Jerusalem. The assassin, who had hidden behind the main gate of the mosque, shot at close range and was himself immediately shot dead by the King's bodyguard.

The King, who was 69, died instantly. His elder son, the Emir Talal, is undergoing medical treatment abroad, and in his absence the younger son, Prince Naif, took the oath of allegiance as Regent at a meeting of the Council of Ministers. The King's body was flown to the capital, Amman, and will be buried in the Royal Cemetery on Monday. A state of emergency has been proclaimed throughout the country.

The assassin is reported to have been identified as Mustafa Shukri Ashshu, a 21-year-old tailor in the Old City. During the Arab-Jewish war he was a member of the "dynamite squad" attached to the Arab irregular forces which were associated with the ex-Mufti of Jerusalem and became bitter enemies of Abdullah. Information was received at the Jordan Legation in London last night that several men were concerned in the crime.

Jordan guards stopped all traffic between the Jordan and Israel sectors of Jerusalem and closed the frontier at noon, fifteen minutes after the assassination. A search was made in the Old City for accomplices. The Aqsa Mosque, where the King was murdered as he was about to attend noon prayers, is within half a mile of the Israeli border

Save the Druze

The emergency is dire but to understand it you'll have to examine the map.

We are proud to call Israel "the Jewish State", but ever since our fight for independence we have had a covenant with our Israeli Druze brothers and sisters. They are as "Israeli" as Jews are. On the map I've shown the Israeli Golan Heights as blue. When we won control of the Golan from the Syrians we "inherited" these additional (non-Israeli) Syrian Druze. They still live there in peace with us.

Inside Syria I've labeled "Jabal Druze" as "the Trapped Druze". About 750,000 Druze now live there. From 1921 to 1936 it was an independent Druze State (Jabal al-Druze). They are about to be attacked, raped, tortured, and slaughtered by ISIS, the Islamic State.

These trapped Druze need weapons to defend themselves. We are in a position to arm them.

I believe that we cannot/should not ignore their plight.

Druse News

Druse and Circassian Israelis have protested against alleged government discrimination.

Here's the story as reported by Israel National News (run by the right wing/nationalist folks at Arutz Sheva)

Druze and Circassian Israelis protested on Thursday against alleged government discrimination. “All we're asking for is equality,” said organizer Salah Fares, head of the Forum of Druze and Circassians in Israel.

Protesters slowed traffic between the northern cities of Akko and Carmiel with a slow-moving procession of cars. Drivers waved black flags and the green, yellow, red, white and blue Druze flag.

The Forum held a demonstration earlier in the week as well, blocking traffic on Tuesday and calling on the government to help Druze and Circassian communities. The week before, activists held a rally outside the Prime Minister's Office in Jerusalem."-more

"The chairman of the forum of the Druze and Circassian authority heads, Nabiah Nasser A-Din, on Thursday criticized the "multi-cultural" Israeli constitution proposed by the Israeli Arab organization Adalah, saying that he finds it unacceptable.

"The state of Israel is Jewish state as well as a democratic state that espouses equality and elections. We invalidate and reject everything that the Adalah organization is requesting," he said.

Adalah recently wrote a proposed constitution classifying the State of Israel as a "bilingual and multicultural" country rather than a Jewish state." -more

Happy Easter (1989)

Today's Golden Oldie is from March 22, 1989.

Twenty years ago I was upset that wishing Christians a Happy Easter would seem political. So instead of a simple Happy Easter cartoon, I did a cartoon about my upset that an innocent Happy Easter would not seem innocent.

Ignoring Lebanon (1975)

In today's news the Main Stream Media is reporting fighting between Hezbollah and the "pro Western" government of Lebanon ...rather than reporting that it is the legitimate government of Lebanon that is being attacked.

I'm not surprised, because the West's abandonment of Lebanon (and the Christian, Jewish, and Druze communities of the Middle East) goes back a long way. The West's ignoring of the ongoing bombing of Sderot by Hamas, and of PLO terrorism and Palestinian anti-Semitic incitement and anti-Christian violence on the West Bank and in Gaza is nothing new.

Today's Golden Oldie is from November of 1975, more that 30 years ago.
