Erev Lag B'Omer

 Erev Lag B'Omer is tomorrow, May 4th, Monday. Here is a Dry Bones Cartoon from 2016, posted by Sali.

This year, the celebrations have been very much toned down because of the war. It is forbidden to have but a very small number of people at Mt. Meron, the traditional site in the north, because of the security situation. Also, there is a danger of forest fires, and somehow, bonfires, and fires, in general, don't seem like such a good idea while we have been subjected to explosions from missiles and the war, But, in years past, the children had fun with it. I think maybe we are getting more mature and seeing the dangers. But I like the statement that this cartoon makes.

Shabbat Shalom and a new shaky ceasefire with Lebanon

 Shabbat Shalom! Israel now has a very shaky ceasefire with Lebanon. The Lebanese government has long been willing for better relations with Israel, but they are very weak and unable to control Hezbollah. So far, as I write this, we have had about 6 hours of quiet and no missile attacks from the north.  I hope that it will last. Yaakov had a saying once about these ceasefires. "we cease, and they fire". This has been true often in the past. Let's see. Hopefully the people in the north will have a quiet and peaceful Shabbat. They have been hammered with almost constant missile and drone attacks, even as we in the center, have had some rest and quiet for the last two weeks. The Jewish State and the State of the Jews

 Here is another Dry Bones cartoon by Kirschen. We had a relatively quiet night here in the center of Israel. Only two missile attacks from Iran. The north of the country had multiple attacks though, as was the night before. A missle from Hezbollah hit a home in Nahariya (a seaside town in the north).

But all of the antisemitic attacks in the USA and the rest of the world are very worrying. Unfortunately we seem to be getting used to it. I looked for a more "up" and inspiring cartoon for today. I might need to post two. Sending love from a weary, sleepless but very strong and resilient land.

Wishful Thinking, and hopes for a Peaceful Shabbat

 Here is a Dry Bones Cartoon from 2020. We are in the middle of a war here. These days, I always look around for where there might be a shelter when I am outside and am a bit reluctant to take a bus. (but I still do sometimes)

But, I see on the news and on social media that the rest of the world really has a distorted view of the whole situation. And I think that a lot of it comes down to anti semitism, often disguised as anti Israelism. Wishing you all a very peaceful and joy filled Shabbat and weekend.

Opportunity Knocks.

 Here is a Dry Bones Cartoon from 2006. Amazing. The gulf Arab nations are now on Israel's side after being attacked by Iran. This was the first cartoon that I read this morning while looking over the old cartoons to post. I don't understand how it could be so current. I don't remember what incident that could have sparked it's creation back in 2006.

This was the first night here in central Israel that there were no missiles or sirens. I hope that it may continue.

Also, I need to make a correction. Yesterday I gave the wrong website address for the wonderful Australian columnist, David Singer. His  newsletter can be found at,  davidsinger@substack.com

The Past and the Future

The News gets crazier every day. It will be interesting to see what the future brings. It seems like a confrontation with Iran is not so far in the future. The world leaders are meeting in Davos, and now Trump is heading there. This all would have been great cartoon material for Yaakov. I miss him, but it gives me pleasure to look through his old cartoons and find something that seems to fit the day. My energy is still low following my fall, but I am getting much better and I am so thankful for everyday of life, and health, and friends and all you fans and followers.
