Unity on Tisha B'Av 2026

 Tomorrow, Wednesday at sunset,  Tisha B'Av begins. It is the saddest day on the Jewish calendar and is a fast day for observant Jews. All food and entertainment places in Israel will close before sunset.

Here is a Dry Bones cartoon from 2014 that celebrates our unity instead of our divisiveness on this day. I am reprinting it and the commentary here. 

Now though, we Jews are tearing each other apart, and it is so very dangerous. I am hoping that this more optimistic cartoon will be an inspiration. Love, Sali

Tomorrow, July 22 is the start of the holy day of Tisha Be'Av ("the ninth day of the Hebrew month of Av"). Tisha Be'Av commemorates the destruction of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem and the subsequent exile of the Jews from the Land of Israel. The day also commemorates other tragedies which occurred on the same day, including the Roman massacre of over 100,000 Jews at Betar in 132 CE. Instituted by the rabbis of 2nd-century Palestine, Tisha B'Av is regarded as the saddest day in the Jewish calendar and a day which is destined for tragedy. -more

Our sages tell us that the reason for the destruction of the Temple was "Sinat Chinam" (Hebrew for the baseless hatred and divisiveness that often divides us.)

The World is Upside Down

 Here is a still very true but very old Dry Bones Cartoon from 1973. This was the first year that Yaakov did the Dry Bones for the Jerusalem Post. Unfortunately the world's feeling for Israel have not gotten any better. 

I miss Yaakov and his take on things so much these days, when we are going through such crazy times. But maybe this will bring a smile for a moment. I hope that I am helping a bit by posting these old cartoons. Love, Sali

Confusing Times

Rational or Irrational?

 Well, it seems that the war with Iran is starting up again. We don't yet know how long it will last or just how things will shape up. So far, there were 3 sirens in the center of the country today.
