a Plague of Locusts

Yup. That's right. A plague of locusts in Egypt spilling into Israel's south.
The latest according to NPR:

Egypt's Locust Plague Threatens Israel
"A swarm of locusts that began in Egypt and has crossed the border into Israel is inviting comparison to one of the Biblical plagues of Exodus.

The New York Times says the swarms are "... like a vivid enactment of the eighth plague visited upon the obdurate Pharaoh. Others with a more modern sensibility said it felt more like Hitchcock."

"Locust clouds were darkening skies on Wednesday, three weeks before the Jewish Passover holiday that recalls 10 Biblical plagues, one of them locusts, that struck Egypt during the exodus of Israelite slaves," The Guardian said.

According to Egypt's Al-Ahram, at least 20 swarms of locusts, each comprising up to 80 million insects, have invaded Egypt over the past three months and there are more believed to be waiting in the wings, so to speak, along the country's southern border with Sudan."- -more

This is a sneak peek at the "Four Questions page" of the yet-to-be-published Dry Bones Haggadah.

Our work on the manuscript is now just about finished. It's 104 pages, full color, full text, Hebrew/English, and every page is illustrated. After feedback from our Kickstarter backers, and after the text is properly proof read, we will mass market them for Passover 2014.

Philosophical Questions

The old question about the tree falling in the forest and nobody being there to hear it was. I thought, a mind puzzle from India ...like the question of the sound of one hand clapping. But it turns out that the "falling tree" metaphysical query was first posed by George Berkeley, in his work, A Treatise Concerning the Principles of Human Knowledge (1710).

The sound of one hand clapping does appear, however, to be a traditional zen koan.

BTW the answer to both questions in today's cartoon is yes.

Israel and the Nations

Today's cartoon is called "Israel and the Nations". The strange title was the result of my total immersion in creating the Dry Bones Haggadah ...he traditional guidebook in understanding the relationship between the Children of Israel and "the Nations".

The original manuscript of the Dry Bones Haggadah is just about done. We're looking at artist's proof copies checking colors and layout. After that, we'll have the text proof-read. Below are pages 58 and 59, which refer to our continuing difficulties with "the Nations."

I'm hoping to make this the haggadah for our generation. Of course It'll take a lot of Dry Bones fans to help make this happen. We've had a good start, I think, with the Kickstarter beginning.
