Israel Government Resigns (1976)

The Rabin Government Resigns (1976) Dry Bones cartoon - .
Today's Golden Oldie is from December 22, 1976, when Prime Minister Rabin announced the resignation of his government (leaving him as head of an interim caretaker government until a new government was formed).

To form a new government, the Knesset votes for a new set of Knesset members to act as the ministers in the new government. General elections don't take place (unless the Knesset is unable to reach agreement).

* * *
The latest news is current Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's announcement that he will resign as Prime Minister after Kadima holds party primaries in September, at which time, it is assumed that a newly elected party leader will be able to take charge.

So in spite of all the headlines, Olmert has NOT resigned, he has simply "promised" to do so about two months from now!! In the meanwhile no one knows what he's trying to cook up with Syria! Not even his own Foreign Minister!Yikes!!

Genocide - Serbia and Sudan

Double Standard for Muslim Butchers? : Dry Bones cartoon.
Double Standard? Obviously.
Here are the two stories now being reported.:

FIRST:
Radovan Karadzic arrives at UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague

"Bosnian Serb war crimes suspect Radovan Karadzic has arrived at the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

Dr Karadzic landed at Rotterdam airport in the Netherlands shortly after 0600 GMT and was transferred to the court complex where he faces trial on charges of genocide." -more

SECOND:
Sudanese president to visit Turkey next August

July 25, 2008 (ANKARA) — "Sudan’s President, Omer Hassan al-Bashir is expected in Ankara next month to participate in a Turkey-African Union summit, it would be the first time he attends such gathering since this indictment by an international prosecutor.

On July 14, the International Criminal Court Prosecutor requested the pre-trial Chamber to issue an arrest warrant for the Sudanese president on charges of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.

The judges are expected to make a decision on whether to issue a warrant for Bashir’s arrest in October or November.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry announced today the participation of al-Bashir in the Turkey-African Union Cooperation Summit scheduled to begin on August 18. He is one of the 20 head of state and government who confirmed the invitation addressed by Ankara.

"According to the information we have, the Sudanese president has confirmed he will be attending". -more

International Justice (1998)

Dry Bones cartoon: The Double Standard in International Justice (1998).
Today's Golden Oldie is from ten years ago this month. July 1998.

Saying that Israel is judged by a double standard is a waste of time. We know it. They know it. So in this cartoon I tried to wring a wry laugh out of the unfair and ugly situation.

A classic goal of much of Jewish Humor.

Olmert Hits Bottom

Olmert hits rock bottom, prepares to dig us even deeper into the hole : Dry Bones cartoon.
Yup, the Olmert government has hit rock bottom and is now preparing to dig us even deeper into the hole! Probably with some outrageous offer to appease the Syrians.
* * *
Meanwhile the investigation into mounting corruption charges against our bumbling Prime Minister continues. Olmert's lawyers, of course, are crying foul. Here's the latest as reported by the Associated Press:

"JERUSALEM — Lawyers defending Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert against a widening web of corruption allegations launched their cross examination of a key witness Thursday by painting him as a lying, litigious businessman with an unsavory reputation and a faulty memory.

They also tried to erode the credibility of law enforcement authorities by suggesting that in their zeal to nail the prime minister, they alternatively intimidated the witness and offered him special treatment.

American Jewish businessman Morris Talansky did major political, if not legal, damage to Olmert last month by alleging the Israeli leader accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in cash, in part to fund his penchant for high living. Olmert has denied any wrongdoing but promised to resign if indicted.

The outrage provoked by Talansky's testimony in May seriously damaged Olmert's credibility among Israelis and prompted his Kadima Party to set new leadership elections, to be held by Sept. 25." -more

Obama and the Media

The Media Loves Obama: Dry Bones cartoon.
Even here in Israel, the local media has fallen in love with Obama. The idea that the American voting public would reject the obvious shinning light of "change" and who the media has decided that the next President will be, seems far-fetched.

So what's your prediction?

Who do you think will win in November and become America's next President?

The Situation (1983)

Things Could Be Worse! (1983) Dry Bones cartoon - .
Today's Golden Oldie was published twenty-five years ago this month. In July of 1983.

I'm a short-term pessimist and a long-term optimist ...and when I came across this cartoon in my Dry Bones archives it actually made me laugh. It's a cartoon that's only funny if you're depressed by the current "situation"

Nu? So did it make you laugh?

Russian Missiles?

Russian Missiles in Cuba!! Dry Bones cartoon.
Back in 1962 a young, good looking, inexperienced junior senator had been elected President of the United States and the Russians moved to test him by stationing missiles in Cuba.

Today's news is that the Russians are now talking about moving missiles back to Cuba just as it looks like maybe another young, good looking, and inexperienced junior senator might become the next President of the United States.

Here's what we saw on television back then when JFK addressed the nation about what became called "the Cuban Missile Crisis". Click on the video to play it.

Serbia is Bombed (1999)

Serbia is Bombed (1999) Dry Bones cartoon.

Today's news is the arrest, in Serbia, of Radovan Karadzic, the Serb leader who has been in hiding since the late nineties.

* * *
Today's golden Oldie is from March 22, 1999 when America (under Bill Clinton) signaled that it was ready to bomb Serbia. Two days later the bombing began. Here's the story from Wikipedia:

"NATO's bombing campaign lasted from March 24 to June 11, 1999, involving up to 1,000 aircraft operating mainly from bases in Italy and aircraft carriers stationed in the Adriatic. Tomahawk cruise missiles were also extensively used, fired from aircraft, ships and submarines. All of the NATO members were involved to some degree—even Greece, despite publicly opposing the war. Over the ten weeks of the conflict, NATO aircraft flew over 38,000 combat missions. For the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) it was the first time it had participated in a conflict since World War II." -more

Obama in the Middle East

Obama's Middle Name: Dry Bones cartoon.
It used to be a way of saying what you were really like as in "Danger is my middle name", or "Trouble is my middle name!" Maybe that's what motivates the use or non-use of Obama's middle name. The belief that his middle name magically shows who he really is?!

Back during the primary battle between Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton for the Democratic Presidential nomination, a McCain supporter, warmed up a Cincinnati rally by referring to "Barack Hussein Obama."

McCain was later asked about whether it was appropriate to use Obama's middle name, McCain said, "No, it is not. Any comment that is disparaging of either Senator Clinton or Senator Obama is totally inappropriate."

So what do you think about the H-word?

And about Obama's trip to the Middle East?

Olmert and Syria

After the horrifying
After the horrifying "Prisoner Exchange" deal negotiated by the Olmert government, we now await their idea of an agreement with Syria. I believe that a total surrender to the demands of the Syrian dictatorship is Olmert's next step.

* * *
My idea of the next step would be for us to kill Samir Kuntar, the just-freed child-killer and hero of the Arab World, who has now vowed to return and pick up where he left off. We need to take him out and we need to do it within the next few days.

* * *
I had wanted to do a light, funny cartoon for the weekend but couldn't. Forgive me. I'll do something more "up" next week. Meanwhile, what's your idea of what our next step should be?

Poisoned Oranges (1978)

Palestinians Poison Israeli Exports, Children Fall Ill. 1978 Dry Bones cartoon - .
Today's Golden Oldie (featuring PLO chairman Yasser Arafat in his signature sunglasses and two day-old beard) was published on February 2, 1978. It was done in reaction to the announcement that had just been made by Palestinian "spokesmen" that they had injected exported Israel oranges in Europe with mercury. Five Dutch children fell ill, having eaten the poisoned fruit. Within days, mercury-injected oranges and lemons turned up in West Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium. The poisoning by the Palestinians was done in Rotterdam where the oranges and lemons were being repackaged for sale in European stores. No children were killed in the Palestinian "action".

It would be in the following year (1979) that Samir Kuntar (what the press would call a Palestinian "activist" or perhaps "fighter") kidnapped an Israeli and his 4-year old daughter. He dragged them to the beach where he shot and killed the father in front of the little girl so that it "would be the last thing she ever saw". He then "smashed the child's head on a rock with the butt of his rifle".

The story is retold by an Egyptian Blogger. You can read it here.

Yesterday, Samir Kuntar was released from prison as part of Olmert's insane "Prisoner Exchange" ...in return for the remains of murdered Israeli soldiers.

Kuntar is now being turned into a hero across the Arab World ...and was referred to by the Western Media as "Israel's longest-held prisoner".

Prisoner Exchange

Convicted urderers exchanged for dead bodies: a Dry Bones cartoon.
First, the Olmert government launched and then mismanaged "the Second Lebanon War" to get our two soldiers back.

Today we saw how the Olmert government mismanaged the "Prisoner Exchange" negotiations

Next we'll see the Olmert government sitting down to give land to the terrorist-supporting Iranian-backed Syrian dictator.

* * *

I am angry.
I am angry at the Israeli Knesset which refuses to remove and replace our dangerous and incompetent Prime Minister.
I am angry at local Israeli TV which attracted a huge audience by doing its best to raise our hopes that at the last minute we might see our boys return alive.
I am angry that we call the convicted murderers we have released "prisoners", as if they were Prisoners Of War rather than convicts.
I am angry at the UN and the International Red Cross and at Amnesty International for being part of legitimizing the terrorist chieftains, IslamoNazi fiends, and local dictators who work these cruel horrors against us.
I am angry.

And everyone I've spoken to this morning is angry too.

Housing Sales (1974)

Housing Market during Inflationary Days in Israel 1974 Dry Bones cartoon - .
I was listening to an NPR (National Public Radio) program stream from America this morning on my computer here in my studio in Israel. The topic being discussed was the seeming collapse of the housing market in the States and the "recession".

It reminded me of what had happened to the housing market here in Israel back in the seventies. The problem we were facing then was inflation rather than recession ...but it still made everybody both crazed and fearful. Today's Golden Oldie offers us a peek into life (and the housing market) in those days of runaway inflation.

Photoshopped

Ahmadinejad as a Photoshop Artist : Dry Bones cartoon.

Photoshop has taken over!! ...And Ahmadinejad is not the only "Artist at Work" with this powerful image-manipulating tool. We can no longer believe any photographic evidence! ...of anything!

It's so bad that even Dry Bones took up the mouse and the graphics program. I had (and have) no idea about how to manipulate photographs but I began to use Photoshop to color the cartoons after I had drawn and scanned them into the computer.

Ah ...but that was the start of the slippery slope. I then began drawing the cartoons with blank balloons, adding the lettering in Photoshop. From there it was easy to move on to the hard-core stuff. Yes. Photoshop-drawn and Photoshop-lettered "Talk Balloons"!

I've cut and pasted the evidence into the cartoon below:

Dry Bones as a Photoshop Artist : Dry Bones cartoon.

What do you think?

Have you ever noticed the difference between the hand-drawn and Photoshop-created Talk Balloons?

Iran's Missiles

Iranian Missiles Dry Bones cartoon.
Ahmadinejad is not just relying on missile technology to scare the world.
He's also using Photoshop!

Here is the Iranian photo of the dramatic launch of Iranian missiles that graced the front pages of newspapers around the world:

photoshop fake

And here is the same photo before the Iranians "photoshopped it" to add a fourth missile:

The U.S. Dollar (1978)

The U.S. Dollar! 1978 Dry Bones cartoon - .
Today's Golden Oldie is a Dry Bones cartoon that I did way back in July of 1978. Thirty years ago this month!

Back in 1978 the Israeli currency was called the Lira. Now it's called the Shekel. The Dollar is still called the Dollar, but as the old song goes "A Dollar Ain't a Dollar Anymore" ...and wildly changing rates of exchange always seem to mean higher prices here in the Promised Land.

* * *
A major story in Israel in 2008 is the incredible drop in the value of the American currency. The Israeli economy is being shaken. Israeli charitable organizations that receive donations in U.S. Dollars are hard hit as the Shekel value of those donations continues to drop ...also hit are Israeli manufacturers who find that U.S. sales bring Dollars that are worth less in Shekels each month as the crisis deepens. At an Israeli friend's house the other day she explained that her savings were in a Dollar account. She was confident that in another year or so the Dollar would be back to where it "should be". I said "What if it never goes back up to its previous value?"

So what do you think about the falling Dollar? Will it rise again?

What do you think?

* * *
Oh and if you're too young to remember the old song and want to hear a snippet of it, make sure your speakers are on and click on "A Dollar Aint a Dollar Anymore"!

The New China?

The New China? Dry Bones cartoon.
China is either the wave of the future...

...or the upcoming Olympics are a huge propaganda ploy aimed at their own captive population (like the Nazi Olympics of 1936)

...or both?!!

Okay, the topic is China and the future of human civilization, and your thoughts are?...

Saudi Arms Buildup (1988)

Saudi Arms Buildup 1988 Dry Bones cartoon - .
This Golden Oldie is from July 1988. Twenty years ago! ...and of course the trend continues, with more sophisticated missiles and planes and advanced weaponry being acquired and the regional hunt for A-bombs becoming hot and heavy. Europe seems even more to be moving in the direction of blindness to the threat that it faces.
* * *
I used two old favorites of mine in this oldie. First is the "Good News, Bad News" structure. Second is the use of King Solomon and his adviser.

Suicide Tactics

Arab/Islamic Terrorism is now Being Outsourced Dry Bones cartoon.
Arab/Islamic terrorism is now being outsourced. I had just finished drawing this cartoon and was in the process of uploading it to the blog when the news came in of a massive suicide truck bombing of the Indian Embassy in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Below is the story as reported in the South Asia News. Note that the words Islam, Islamic, Muslim, or Moslem do not appear anywhere in the reporting.

44 killed, more than 100 injured in suicide blast at Indian embassy
Jul 7, 2008, 8:48 GMT
Kabul/Delhi - "A powerful explosion killed at least 44 people and wounded scores of others in an apparent suicide attack at the Indian embassy in Kabul Monday, officials said.

Sources in the Afghan interior ministry said at least 44 people were killed in the deadliest suicide bombing since fall of Taliban regime in 2001.

An official statement by the Interior Ministry said only that more than 100 people were killed and injured in the incident.

According to the statement, initial findings showed the bomber targeted Indian embassy.

'Terrorists in cooperation with some secret agencies in the region carried out this attack,' it said.

The victims were mostly civilians including women and children, Fahim added."

Iran, Israel, and the 4th of July

Once again Israel is expected to do the impossible?!! ...as we were forced to do did in Entebbe?!! a Dry Bones cartoon.

No one is stopping the Iranians, and it looks like once again Israel is expected to do the impossible?!!

So on this anniversary of Israel's astounding Entebbe Operation 32 years ago back in July 4, 1976, how do you think that the current (Iranian Nuke) "crisis" will play out?

4th of July (1983)

The Fourth of July: Entebbe Day! 1983 Dry Bones cartoon - .
Today's Golden Oldie is a cartoon from 1983 ...twenty five years ago! Mr. Shuldig is in a supermarket pushing his shopping cart and checking his picnic shopping list.

* * *
The incredible Entebbe rescue operation (seven years earlier in 1976) had flipped Israel's mood from hopeless despair to elation and joy in an instant ...something we could use these days!

Here's the story as reported by the BBC:

Israelis rescue Entebbe hostages

Israeli commandos have rescued 100 hostages, mostly Israelis or Jews, held by pro-Palestinian hijackers at Entebbe airport in Uganda.

At about 0100 local time (2200GMT), Ugandan soldiers and the hijackers were taken completely by surprise when three Hercules transport planes landed after a 2,500-mile trip from Israel.

About 200 elite troops ran out and stormed the airport building.

During a 35-minute battle, 20 Ugandan soldiers and all seven hijackers died along with three hostages.

"This operation will certainly be inscribed in the annals of military history, in legend and in national tradition."- Yitzhak Rabin, Israeli Prime Minister

To read more, and to see actual 1976 TV coverage of the July 4th event click here. To see previous postings about Mr. Shuldig's celebration of the holiday, just click on Entebbe.

So tell me, will YOU be celebrating Entebbe Day this 4th of July?

Palestinian Terrorists (1993)

Palestinian Terrorists (1993) Dry Bones cartoon.
Today's Golden Oldie is a Dry Bones cartoon that I did fifteen years ago this month. Back in July of 1993. The bag-headed terrorists are now in complete control of the "territories". All local Arab Palestinian opposition has been squashed and the bully-boys have won the sympathy and support of most of the world.

Interestingly, most folks have forgotten the campaign of extreme violence and terror which was needed to crush all Palestinian opposition to their religio-fascist rule.
