Today's Golden Oldie is from December 22, 1976, when Prime Minister Rabin announced the resignation of his government (leaving him as head of an interim caretaker government until a new government was formed).
To form a new government, the Knesset votes for a new set of Knesset members to act as the ministers in the new government. General elections don't take place (unless the Knesset is unable to reach agreement).
* * * The latest news is current Prime Minister Ehud Olmert's announcement that he will resign as Prime Minister after Kadima holds party primaries in September, at which time, it is assumed that a newly elected party leader will be able to take charge.
So in spite of all the headlines, Olmert has NOT resigned, he has simply "promised" to do so
about two months from now!! In the meanwhile no one knows what he's trying to cook up with Syria! Not even his own Foreign Minister!
Yikes!!Labels: Elections, Olmert, Politics, Rabin, Syria
