Egypt's Christians flee Sinai amid Islamic State killing spree
Christian families and students fled Egypt's North Sinai province in droves on Friday after Islamic State killed the seventh member of their community in just three weeks. A Reuters reporter saw 25 families gathered with their belongings in the Suez Canal city of Ismailia's Evangelical Church and church officials said 100 families, out of around 160 in North Sinai, were fleeing. More than 200 students studying in Arish, the province's capital, have also left. -more

In 2013 Kim Jong Un ordered the brutal execution of his uncle General Jang Song-thaek on charges of corruption. He had his uncle blown to pieces by an anti-aircraft cannon and driven over by tanks before his scattered remains were burnt with a flamethrower.

When his wife, King Jong-Un’s aunt — Kim Kyong-hui — protested, she was poisoned.

All remaining members of her family (Jong-Un’s cousins) were shot dead, including those who were ambassadors to Malaysia and Cuba.
And now the murder, earlier this week, of Jong Un's eldest brother, Kim Jong-Nam,

Yarmulkes in France

According to the Jewish Telegraph Agency:

Marine Le Pen: French Jews should sacrifice yarmulke in struggle against radical Islam

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen said French Jews should give up the wearing of yarmulkes as part of the country’s struggle to defeat radical Islam. In an interview with Israel’s Channel 2 that aired Friday, Le Pen expressed support for banning the wearing of yarmulkes as part of her broader effort to outlaw religious symbols in public, Britain’s Jewish Chronicle reported Sunday. “Honestly, the dangerous situation in which Jews in France live is such that those who walk with a kippah are in any case a minority because they are afraid,” Le Pen said, using the Hebrew word for yarmulke. “But I mainly think the struggle against radical Islam should be a joint struggle and everyone should say, ‘There, we are sacrificing something.’” Referring to French Jews, Le Pen added: “Maybe they will do with just wearing a hat, but it would be a step in the effort to stamp out radical Islam in France.” Le Pen is a leading contender in the upcoming French presidential contest, with a recent poll showing her advancing to the second round of balloting in May but still losing handily to front-runner Emmanuel Macron. Her political party, the National Front, was founded by her father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, who routinely minimized the Holocaust. The younger Le Pen has sought to move the party past her father’s controversies, but French Jewish leaders still consider the National Front anti-Semitic.

Nasty, Funny, Jewish and Cynical

After more than fifty years of being a cartoonist I've become a grumpy old man. Mr. Shuldig, the chubby, bald-headed hero of my Dry Bones cartoons is also a grumpy old man. And after decades of writing and drawing my daily Dry Bones cartoon, I’ve decided to tackle two new goals. One is to pass on the flavor of our Jewish immigrant past to new generations of young Jews in English-speaking countries. The second is to charm and re-ignite the memories of other grumpy old guys and gals. The first book in my new “Grandpa’s Jewish Cartoon Coloring Books” series is a cartoon coloring book called “A Dry Bones Guide to Jewish Curses.” Nothing has been re-written or "adjusted" to appeal to modern taste. The cartoons are accurate translations of real Yiddish curses, the kind that drip with nasty, funny, Jewish, immigrant cynicism.
We, the LSW (Long Suffering Wife) and I, hope that you will enjoy reading these pages and have the fun of coloring the cartoons.

Jewish Curses

With the prodding (and encouragement) of the LSW (Long Suffering Wife) I’ve written and drawn a cartoon guide and coloring book of “Jewish Curses”.
The book is not about cursing as in the kind of “cursing” you do when you hit your thumb with a hammer. It’s something entirely different.
 Let me explain.
 In the early 20th century, massive numbers of Jewish immigrants escaped to the English-speaking world with a secret language which only they spoke.
\It was called Yiddish and it carried their unique culture. A culture that allowed them to express their frustrations and anger through wildly funny and insanely nasty Yiddish curses that dripped with Jewish immigrant cynicism. The curses in this book are all translations from the original Yiddish, and no effort has been made to make them more understandable or funny in English.
We hope that, with a little effort, you will find them a door to understanding the mindset, attitudes, and native wit of our Yiddish immigrant past. A past that was rich in the native wit that empowered the classic Jewish comedians and which gave birth to what we now politely call Jewish humor.

We, the LSW and I, hope that you will enjoy reading and coloring the cartoon pages and that you will consider their value in gifting a younger generation with a glimpse into our ethnic past.

Coloring Books

“Coloring books for adults are now a “thing”. The LSW (Long Suffering Wife) informed me of this startling fact a while ago. Apparently there are coloring book clubs, Facebook pages, Instagram postings, etc. etc. And, it seems, it’s not new. Sigmund Freud’s competitor Carl Jung used to prescribe the coloring of intricate Indian mandalas to his patients more than 100 years ago as a relaxation therapy technique. Sali (the LSW) continued “So why don’t you create a few Dry Bones coloring books for your fans to enjoy?” Mandalas and intricate flower designs are not my thing but the idea of Dry Bones coloring books really was an exciting idea. The first one is a Dry Bones guide to Jewish Curses. I think you'll like it. I’ve now done a few books (some coloring books and others not) and I’d really love to have your feedback. These Changing Times

This story is so crazy that I was sure it was a joke. I checked. It's not!

According to the Telegraph:

Don't call pregnant women 'expectant mothers' as it might offend transgender people, BMA says

The British Medical Association has said pregnant women should not be called "expectant mothers" as it could offend transgender people.

Instead, they should call them "pregnant people" so as not to upset intersex and transgender men, the union has said. The advice comes in an internal document to staff outlining a raft of common phrases that should be avoided for fear of causing offence.

"The elderly" should be referred to as "older people", "disabled lifts" called "accessible lifts" and someone who is "biologically male or female" should be called "assigned male or female".The BMA said the document was purely guidance for its staff on effective communication within the workplace, not advice to its 156,000 doctor members on how to deal with patients.

On pregnancy and maternity, it says: "Gender inequality is reflected in traditional ideas about the roles of women and men. Though they have shifted over time, the assumptions and stereotypes that underpin those ideas are often deeply-rooted." It adds: "A large majority of people that have been pregnant or have given birth identify as women. We can include intersex men and transmen who may get pregnant by saying 'pregnant people' instead of 'expectant mothers'."-more
