Rain (2000)

Dry Bones

(2000) Dry Bones cartoon: Israel, Rain, Drought, Winter, Bible, Noah, 2000, pessimism,
Today's Golden Oldie is from 2000.

I posted this cartoon today because now, after years of drought, Israel is being deluged with rain. In our part of the world, winter rains are a blessing. Our resevoirs are refilling, the earth is soaking up the life-sustaining waters, and the flowers that bloom in the Spring are already bursting into bloom.

Lovely.

American Elections (2000)

(2000) Dry Bones cartoon: American Democracy and the Middle East Arab States.
Today's golden Oldie is ten years old. Nothing has changed. America is still having elections and the collection of theocracies, dictatorships, sheikdoms, and kingdoms that surround Israel are still a collection of theocracies, dictatorships, sheikdoms, and kingdoms.

The votes "still being counted" in the cartoon refer to the hotly contested Presidential battle between Al Gore (the Democrat candidate) and George W. Bush (the Republican) in 2000.

Stone Throwing (1980)

(1980) Dry Bones cartoon: Stone throwing.
Today's Golden Oldie is a Dry Bones cartoon done in 1980. It was the cartoon I did to mark the beginning of the organized stone-throwing Arab rioting that would later morph into what would be called "the Intifada".

The latest news is that Ahmadinejad, during his upcoming visit to Lebanon, plans to visit the Lebanese border to throw stones at Israeli soldiers. It's an easy target for a joke but the reality is that the border with Israel is controlled by Iran's puppet militia; Hizbullah. In effect the Iranian President's visit to Lebanon's south is a visit to one of Iran's borders with Israel. His other border is, of course, Hamas' Islamist territory of Gaza.

Land For Peace (2000)

(2000) Dry Bones cartoon: Sukkot.
Today's Golden Oldie is a Dry Bones cartoon done 10 years ago in the first month of the 21st century.

I picked this cartoon because, having just finished the first decade of this century, I wanted to see where we were at the start of it!

Yup, there's been no change in the Syrian position. and yes, there's also been absolutely no change in the double standard that the nations use to judge the Jewish State.

Your thoughts?

the Y2K Bug (1999)

Y2K Bug (1999) Dry Bones cartoon - .
Today's Golden Oldie is from January 1999.

The big worry at the start of the new year of 1999 was what, back then, we called the Y2K (or Millennium) Bug.

The problem was that programmers tried to save space by using 2 digits to represent the year in the software they produced. 85 instead of 1985, 86 instead of 1986, etc. But with the approach of 2000, would computer programs think that 00 meant 1900?!! Yikes.

Doobie, being a dog, has a more objective view of human society than Mr. Shuldig.

So where were you ten years ago? Were you worried about the Y2K bug? Nu?
