Disarming Hamas?

Dry Bones Golden Oldies by Sali, the LSW. This cartoon is from 2009. Some things don't seem to change much.

Much love, and wishes for peace!

Vice President Vance is in Israel, trying to work out next stages. I hope that he will be able to succeed, but time will tell.
More of our deceased hostages have come home, leaving 13 still in Gaza.

We are celebrating for the moment, but with the knowledge that the future will see many challenges.

Blessings to you all, and your family, and loved ones... peace, health, happiness, prosperity, and freedom, love, Sali, the LSW (Long Suffering Wife)

The President's Strategy (2007)

dry bones

August 05, 2007
Dry Bones, cartoon, golden oldie, Israel, Jews, Jewish

Back in 2007, President George W. Bush was dealing with the Middle East by sending weapons to one set of terrorists in hopes that they would use them against another group of Islamists. Now, with the slaughter in Syria out of control, has another President decided to adopt the same strategy of sending weapons to one set of terrorists for use against another?

Syrian Weapons

Dry Bones cartoon, Syria, Turkey, weapons, Islamism, Arab Spring, Arab Revolt, Arabs, bombing, Israel, Iran, Shuldig, ,
The story of Israel's supposed action to prevent sophisticated weapons getting to the murderous terrorist gangs on our borders is nothing new. Neither is the world's shock at our determination to stay alive and to prosper in our little country.

Syria's Chemical Weapons

: Kirschen, Syria, Hizbullah, terrorists, Lebanon, weapons, WMD, Assad, : Dry Bones cartoon.
The situation as reported in Turkish Weekly:
Netanyahu: Israel Prepared to Deal with Syrian Chemical Weapons
"Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says his country is prepared to act to neutralize the threat posed by Syrian weapons of mass destruction in a post-Assad era. The prime minister was interviewed by two U.S. television networks.
Benjamin Netanyahu says Syrian President Bashar al-Assad’s days are numbered.
“I think the [Syrian] regime will go," he said. "I do not know if it is days or weeks or months, but I do not think it is sustainable.”
Appearing on Fox News Sunday, the prime minister said he worries chaos in Syria could allow chemical weapons to fall into the hands of sworn enemies of Israel.
“Can you imagine Hezbollah - the people who are conducting, with Iran, all these terror attacks around the world - can you imagine that they would have chemical weapons? It would be like al-Qaida having chemical weapons. It is something that is not acceptable to us,” he said.

Mysterious Mishaps

attack, Iran, Nukes, Nuclear Energy, WMD, weapons, Tehran, : Dry Bones cartoon. Who knows what's really happening? But here's some speculation from the Miami Herald (datelined Jerusalem):

Iran explosions prompt speculation of secret attacks

JERUSALEM -- "A series of mishaps at Iranian nuclear facilities and weapons sites may be part of a covert organized attack on Iran's nuclear weapons program, according to Western intelligence officials.

An explosion last week outside Iran's third largest city, Isfahan, is thought to be the most recent strike, though details on the intended target are still unclear. A sprawling military base and nuclear facilities are outside Isfahan, and intelligence officials across the Middle East said there was strong evidence that the explosion had done some "significant structural damage."

"We have seen enough evidence to know something has happened, but we are unclear on what at this point," said one Western diplomat whose work includes the region, speaking only on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. "There are a number of parties interested in sabotaging and weakening the Iranian regime."

The second such incident in as many weeks cast doubt on Iranian claims that these were "accidents" and "coincidences," and it set off speculation of a coordinated attack by Israel, whose officials long have threatened a strike against Iran's nuclear program. Israeli officials denied direct involvement, but the growing number of mysterious or unexplained blasts and deaths has many suspecting an official program of sabotage." -more

For today's Golden Oldie, I thought I'd rummage around and see what I was up to thirty years ago this month. I found this cartoon which had been published on November 20, 1981.

The Israel that Mr. Shuldig lived in (back in 1981) had only one TV Channel!

Yikes!

Russian Roulette

Russia, Israel, Hizbullah, Lebanon, missiles, Syria, appeasement, Chechnia, terrorists, Islamists, weapons : Dry Bones cartoon.
The story (as reported 2 hours ago) by the Associated Press:
Israel tried to block Russian arms deal with Syria
By JOSEF FEDERMAN (AP) – September 19, 2010

JERUSALEM — "Israel's prime minister said Sunday that he failed to block Russian plans to sell Syria anti-ship cruise missiles that his country fears could fall into the hands of Hezbollah guerrillas.

Syria is a key backer of the Lebanese Hezbollah, which has used Russian-made weapons against Israel in the past, including anti-tank missiles that were one of the militant group's most effective weapons during the month-long war with Israel in 2006.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned the deal to sell Syria P-800 missiles would be "very problematic" for the Jewish state.

"We have been aware of this deal for some time, and there were discussions with the Russians at every level," Netanyahu told a closed meeting of Cabinet ministers from his Likud Party. His comments were confirmed by a meeting participant, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the meeting was closed.

A string of Israeli leaders raised concerns about the deal, most recently Defense Minister Ehud Barak during a trip to Moscow earlier this month. Israeli defense officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were discussing a sensitive diplomatic matter, said Barak was told the sale would go through.

Russia's defense minister, Anatoly Serdyukov, announced in Washington last week that his government would go ahead with the deal, signed in 2007. Both Israel and the U.S. had voiced objections." - more
