Palestinian Statehood (1988)

(1988) Dry Bones cartoon: Yasser Arafat and the question of Palestinian Statehood.
Today's Golden Oldie is a Dry Bones cartoon of Yasser Arafat (in fatigues, sunglasses, and signature 5 o'clock shadow). It was done 22 years ago this month!

Back in August 1988, King Hussein of Jordan called PLO chieftain Yasser Arafat's bluff by saying that he'd recognize a Palestinian State as soon as it was declared.

The decades slip by, the "Palestinian" leadership continues to threaten a unilateral declaration of statehood ...and never does! So what's going on?

I'm ready to hear your opinion as to why the terrorist leadership of the Arab populations of the West Bank and Gaza have never declared statehood.

Nu?

The Sacrifice Part Two

Obama and the sacrifice of Isaac : Dry Bones cartoon.
I decided to do a follow-up to Friday's Obama and the sacrifice of Isaac cartoon.

As reported by Ben Smith at Politico:

New York Senator Chuck Schumer harshly criticized the Obama Administration's attempts to exert pressure on Israel today, making him the highest-ranking Democrat to object to Obama's policies in such blunt terms. "Schumer dramatically sharpened his tone on the politically conservative Jewish Nachum Segal Show today, calling the White House stance to date "counter-productive" and describing his own threat to "blast" the Administration had the State Department not backed down from its "terrible" tough talk toward Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Schumer, a hawkish ally of Israel since his days as a Brooklyn Congressman, described "a battle going on inside the administration" over Middle East policy.

"This has to stop," he said of the administration's policy of publicly pressuring Israel to end construction in Jerusalem.

"I told the President, I told Rahm Emanuel and others in the administration that I thought the policy they took to try to bring about negotiations is counter-productive, because when you give the Palestinians hope that the United States will do its negotiating for them, they are not going to sit down and talk," Schumer told

Segal. "Palestinians don’t really believe in a state of Israel. They, unlike a majority of Israelis, who have come to the conclusion that they can live with a two-state solution to be determined by the parties, the majority of Palestinians are still very reluctant, and they need to be pushed to get there.-more"

So should I do a third cartoon and make it a series on Obama's attempt to sacrifice Israel? Your thoughts?

Two State Solution ?

Two State Solution ? : Dry Bones cartoon.
I was listening to two Israeli Knesset members arguing about the "Two State Solution" on TV last night. Most folks just won't admit that the Palestinians are not prepared or able to build a modern, democratic state that could live in peace with a Jewish State of Israel. And yet, even to my ears, the supporter of the Two State Solution seemed to be a "nicer person". She was totally naive but there's something appealing about a dreamer. The problem was that her dream was a self-delusional fantasy. Thinking about that lead me to do today's cartoon.

There's an online "SAY NO TO U.S. PRESSURE ON ISRAEL" Petition. It's been put up by the Stand With Us people. It opposes "U.S. pressure on Israel for premature concessions that will put Israeli security at risk". To see the petition click here.
