Ignoring Lebanon (1975)

In today's news the Main Stream Media is reporting fighting between Hezbollah and the "pro Western" government of Lebanon ...rather than reporting that it is the legitimate government of Lebanon that is being attacked. I'm not surprised, because the West's abandonment of Lebanon (and the Christian, Jewish, and Druze communities of the Middle East) goes back a long way. The West's ignoring of the ongoing bombing of Sderot by Hamas, and of PLO terrorism and Palestinian anti-Semitic incitement and anti-Christian violence on the West Bank and in Gaza is nothing new.Today's Golden Oldie is from November of 1975, more that 30 years ago.

Yaakov,
You are even more right than you where 33 years ago. There is an old phrase from a Mexican writer of the early 20th century that goes "he who does not learn from history will repeat it".
We've seen what the Muslims have done in Lebanon; we have seen how they have desecrated the Christian holy places on the West Bank; we've seen how they destroyed the greenhouses in Gaza; we've seen it in France and England with the attacks against Jews AND Christians, let alone Theo Van Gogh. How many times do you have to smack a donkey over the snout with a 2X4 before he pays attention? All I can say is "we sure are some dumb donkeys".
How much more are we going to take before we say "Enough is Enough" and
hit them with so much force their heads rotate at 78 RPM?

Bones, western media wants to ignore it unless there is a way to blame it on Bush, otherwise we return to Judge Ito's courtroom and the OJ trial.
My view is, the west, with America leading the rest, is simply content to keep our heads in the sand and pretend/believe that we're the only microcosms that matter.
Whether its the midde least, Africa, Tibet, or any other remote places that suffer - we just don't understand. Most of America and the west simply can't comprehend that these things are actually happening, and that they actually matter to us.
It's hard to explain - but we live in our own sphere of influence, and NO ONE wants to burst that bubble, not the media, not the government, and not corporate interests (who milk us as a microcosm of consumers.)
I don't know how to get around these blinders. But I do know that nothing will improve until we do.
