Do you remember Israel BEFORE it was the Startup Nation?

Back when we were young and innocent, Dry Bones fans eagerly looked forward to the full page cartoons I did in the weekend magazine of the Jerusalem Post.

Well, we are no longer young and innocent and the full page Dry Bones is just a memory, but in response to the requests of many old-timers, I decided to do a book of those weekend pages.I hope that this collection will warm the hearts of old-time fans and serve to let younger generations know how we experienced life in Israel back then.

The Balfour Declaration

According to the Jewish Virtual Library:

On November 2, 1917, British Foreign Secretary Lord Arthur James Balfour wrote a letter to Lord Walter Rothschild. The contents of this letter became known as the Balfour Declaration: "His Majesty's Government views with favor the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people, and will use their best endeavors to facilitate the achievement of this object, it being clearly understood that nothing shall be done which may prejudice the civil and religious rights of existing non-Jewish communities in Palestine or the rights and political status enjoyed by Jews in any other country."

Israel, UNESCO, and Uncle Sam

According to Israel National News:

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu announced Thursday night that Israel will be exiting the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) over the organization’s anti-Israeli bias, following a similar announcement by the Trump administration.

UNESCO's board is set to meet next week and had announced that the anti-Israel resolutions it had intended to bring to a vote would be postponed for six months. This is seen by sources as a possible attempt to stave off the actions of the US and Israel.

Netanyahu’s statement came just hours after the US State Department declared that the US would be leaving UNESCO by 2019 due to its anti-Israel bias.

Soviet Jewry and Simchat Torah

The brave Jews of the USSR demonstrated their continued Jewish people-hood by dancing and singing in synagogues and in the streets on Simchat Torah. This they did in the face of Communist repression. Their actions spoke to the world. In the end we (the Jews) won, They (the Soviet oppressors) lost, and the story has faded from history and our memories, along with organizations like the Student Struggle for Soviet Jewry. * * * Please take a look at our books at drybones.com

President Trump has decided that instead of carrying out his campaign promise to move the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, he'll do it after he sets up an Israeli/Arab peace treaty. Maybe.
