Iran, then and now

 Wow! Here is a Dry Bones cartoon about Iran from back in 2006. Posted by Sali, the LSW.

It is amazing how things don't change much in the Middle East. We are waiting to see what the next few days and weeks will bring.

I had been teaching an art class to the spouses of the foreign diplomats that are here in Israel, but we had to temporarily suspend the classes as most of the spouses were sent back to their home countries by their governments for safety during the war. But now, most have returned and we are planning to start the class again next week.

But who knows what a week will bring these days? It is so strange that on a day by day basis, everything changes, but over the years, it seems that almost nothing changes.

Hoping that "The Good" Guys Win!

 Dry Bones Golden Oldie, by Sali the LSW. (Long Suffering Wife) Here is a Dry Bones cartoon from 2003. We are hoping that the "good guys" win!

I have not yet been able to get an x-ray to see if my rib is indeed broken, but that should happen today. Also, I am feeling much better, so maybe it is just a muscle sprain. I am supposed to give an art lesson and lecture to about 15 international diplomatic women tomorrow, and the venue is outdoors, but covered. The weather forecast, after many days of a major heat wave, is predicting thunder storms. So, it might be a very unusual and interesting experience. The whole adventure is a new and a bit daunting thing for me. But I am taking peoples advice to stay busy in the first year after Yaakov's passing. It has been 7 months now. Also, I finally succeeded in getting my spelling checker to work. Hooray! I am very computer challenged. But I have the excuse that I am old. 😊

Iranian Nukes

As the cartoon points out, we don't know what Iran is planning. But we're getting ready for any eventuality. Israel has just launched a five-day civil-defense drill.

According to the V.O. A:

"With the Middle East in turmoil, Israel is preparing for the possibility of a regional war.

As part of preparations for such a scenario the country has begun a five-day civil-defense drill to deal with the threat of a massive missile and rocket bombardment from several fronts: Iran, Syria, Lebanon and the Gaza Strip. -more from voa

Many years ago the Tel Aviv Municipality, as part of its program to support the arts, decided to allow selected artists to use bomb shelters as studios. The LSW (Long Suffering Wife) is one of those selected artists. Today she's at her studio, but today she's not being a painter. Today she's an air-raid warden, being part of the massive drill.

Here's one of her paintings of Tel Aviv. It's of her favorite Juice Bar on a peaceful, tree-lined Tel Aviv Boulevard:

American Gothic

They keep telling us that this economic meltdown could be a replay of the 1929 stock market crash, so it was only natural that the image of the farm couple in Grant Wood’s fantastic "American Gothic" came to mind. But every attempt to draw the painting was a gross and grotesque failure, The piece was almost too holy for me to parody with taste.

I gave up, talked myself into believing that only the "real" image would work, and worked up a version of the cartoon with the real painting pasted in ...sort of like a captioned photograph. I showed it to a friend who said "Nice, but I'd like to see a Dry Bones version of the painting." So I gave it another try.

But I only succeeded in freeing my mind when I saw a Disney version called "Homegrown".

Hey if Disney could play with the image so could Dry Bones!
