Ha Ha Ha and Ho Ho Ho

Dry Bones cartoon: Christmas, Hanukka, Santa, Santa Claus, Jewish, religion, holiday,
This year the first night of Hanukka is December 24th (Christmas Eve). More than ever important to understand that Hanukka is NOT the Jewish Christmas! Just as Christmas is NOT the Christian Hanukka.
They are two wonderful and different winter holidays of two sister religions.

BTW a great, meaningful, and really classy gift for either occasion (Hanukka or Christmas) is the fabulous Dry Bones Passover Haggadah.

Togetherness

Dry Bones cartoon: Happy Hanukka, festival of lights, Hanukka, Hanukkah, Chanukah, Chanukkah,Hanucca, Holiday, Jewish, Jewish Culture, religion, Christmas, Xmas, Santa, Santa Claus,
This year the first night of Hanukka falls on December 24th, Christmas Eve.

At a time when Jews and Christians are both the targets of Islamist terrorism around the world, it seems appropriate that we share a feeling of togetherness. It also seems appropriate to emphasize my strong opposition to Christian missionary attempts to convert Jews. This holiday season we should celebrate the joy of our sister and separate religions and so it gives me great pleasure to wish all Jews a hearty Happy Hanukka and to our Christian brothers and sisters a joyous and Merry Christmas.

Priest to UN: Israel is ‘Only Safe Place’ for Christians in Middle East:
(CNSNews.com) – “The Jewish state is the only safe place where the Christians of the Holy Land live in safety,” Fr. Gabriel Naddaf, a Greek Orthodox priest from Israel, told the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in September.
“The earth of the Middle East is soaked with the blood of Christians being killed daily,” Naddaf said in testimony released Wednesday by the non-governmental organization, UN Watch."
The priest pointed to the grim statistic that the Christian population of the Middle East has gone from 20 percent at the start of the 20th century to only around 4 percent today.
“If we look at the Middle East, Mr. President, we realize there’s only one safe place where Christians are not persecuted. One place where they are protected, enjoying freedom of worship and expression, living in peace and not subjected to killing and genocide,” Naddaf said.
“It is Israel, the country I live in. The Jewish state is the only safe place where the Christians of the Holy Land live in safety.

Santa Claus (1996)

Dry Bones cartoon: Happy Hanukka Merry Christmas.
Hanukka has just ended and Christmas Eve is tonight. While rummaging through my archives for a Golden Oldie I was surprised to see how many times I've already cartooned and blogged about Christmas since I began this blog back in August of 2005.

To see the Christmas postings, just click on Dry Bones Christmas postings.

And to all our Christian friends out there, have a beautiful and Merry Christmas!!

Peace on Earth (1977)

1977 Dry Bones cartoon - Peace on Earth to men of Goodwill.
1977. December. Thirty years ago. It seemed as if peace was coming to Earth. at least on our little part of it. Egyptian President Sadat had offered us Peace. And Israeli Prime Minister Begin was willing to reward the offer with every inch of territory which had fallen into Israeli hands after the Yom Kippur surprise attack by the Egyptian army.

I drew Begin as Santa and Sadat as an isolated "man of goodwill".

Although the generally accepted Christmas quote is "Peace on Earth, goodwill towards men" , there are those that say that a better translation is "Peace on Earth towards men of goodwill". The sad fact is that we don't have many "men of goodwill" leading the countries that surround us. Sadat turned out to be one.

They killed him.

To see a video of the assassination as we and the world saw it four years after this cartoon was done, in October of 1981 click here.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Dry Bones cartoon: Santa Claus 2007.
The idea of rewarding good behavior has been lost. It does not matter that Palestinians are bombing the civilian population of the Negev. It does not matter who's been "naughty or nice". George W. seems ready to establish his "legacy" by coming to the region and giving the terrorists a state by the end of 2008!

Your thoughts?
