While Europe Sleeps

In case you didn't catch the story that bored the EU ...here's a mention by Al Jazeera (Dec 7 2012) :
Khaled Meshaal, the Hamas leader in exile, has rejected any concessions over a future Palestine state at a rally marking the 25th anniversary of the armed Palestinian group.More than 100,000 Palestinians gathered in the Gaza Strip on Saturday to hear him speak for the first time in the Palestinian enclave."Palestine is our land and nation from the [Mediterranean] sea to the [Jordan] river, from north to south, and we cannot cede an inch or any part of it," he said." -more

About 40 years ago, I had to leave a youth hostel in Munich, because I insulted a bunch of pally students staying there. When they asked me, " if you were born in Canada, why do you want to go "THERE?"". My answer was that "I'm from "THERE", the ROMANS took my family away from "THERE",,,,, as slaves". They all dropped their chins on the floor and one by one left the table. A couple hours later, I was told that the whole bunch of them had left and not got their money back. I was asked to leave,,,,,, and got MY money back,,,,, even for the five days I'd already
spent there. I can still feel the warmth I got from ALL the other hostellers for standing up to those bullies !!!!
Have not yet heard A.B. Yehoshua's reaction to Mashaal's Gaza speech. Only a couple of days previous in an article in Ha'aretz he had urged Israel to talk to Hamas.
It's time for Israel to talk to Hamas says A.B. Yehoshua

I think it's about time to spell that groups name "HAM-ASS" correctly..........

Yaakov, this cartoon came out a day too early. In todays news, we have learned from Abbas that the words promising doom for Israel is not really what Khalad Meshaal meant to say. So...no worry. Meshaal wants only to obliterate the Jews of Israel, not the whole world.
Jews of the world you have a reprieve don't worry. We will be here to protect you.
Am Yisrael Chai
"More restrained"??
How about MIA, non existent or just plain hiding under their desks.
Either way, when the bolognaise hits the fan, they (the international toches lekkers) will be amongst the first to get splattered.
I am surprised anyone is surprised at this...This has been with us since the beginning of or history...Nothing new to me...
We are no longer surprised at lack of world interest in Israel's plight. The world's leaders are moribund - enslaved mentally - moving as if in a dream. They fail to see the nightmare that is now being thrust upon them - called ISLAM. Its roots are everywhere we turn - and soon this rabid plague will engulf us and suck us dry of all that is lovely, kind and good. We are sinking into a miasmic slough making us powerless to fight the forces or darkness unless we act NOW. Be'ahavat Yisrael, shalom
Would one of you be so kind as to recommend a reliable book of Jewish history and a book about what is currently going on in the fight for Israel? I am an American woman who is sympathetic to the Jewish cause, but I get very confused with the names of the different factions i.e. Hamas, Fatah, etc. and their roles in today's conflicts. I am not knowledgeable enough to understand many of the comments here and I do not wish to be misled by reading pro-Palestinian propaganda online by mistake. I am not a scholar, so the books should be fairly simply written. Thank you for your help in advance...
Please note below at 11:50 PM "Classof65" posted, describing herself as "an American woman who is sympathetic to the Jewish cause" but not knowledgeable about current details and asking for a "reliable book of Jewish history and a book about what is currently going on in the fight for Israel" and no one has yet responded to her. I don't have the names of books for her at the moment, but hope to have a reply in a few days, with G-d's help.
Barry Rubin's book Israel or (forgot the author's name) From Time Immemorial.
Thank you, Anonymous, for your suggestions. If anyone else has in mind any additional books, I would appreciate your input.
Dear Classof65... It's surprisingly difficult to recommend a single book when so many are available! However, you might take a look at "Homeland: The Illustrated History of the State of Israel" by Wolfman, Ruiz and Rubin. Though "scholars" (like me!) may be put off a bit by the nearly "comic book" presentation (I was, actually!) the heavily illustrated book is "accessible" to nearly everyone... yet surprisingly comprehensive. The maps and pictures really do help explain things, and although targeted towards high schoolers and younger adults, I think many older people will also find the book a good mix of older and newer history, with prior eras giving background and context to modern events. It is also quite cheap on Amazon, and available used or even on Kindle readers. It's only major negative is its 2007 publication, which naturally omits the events of the following 5-6 years. Best wishes, and happy holidays!
For Clasof65: I don't disagree with Anonymous about the Wolfman book, but not familiar with it. In 2004, Alan Dershowitz wrote a book called The Case for Israel, and in 2009 he wrote The Case Against Israel's Enemies and also a book called The Case for Moral Clarity: Israel Hamas and Gaza. The man's a college professor at Harvard so i assume he knows his stuff, and he seems to me to speak clearly when I've heard him, but I can't decide for anyone else if the writing is too "scholarly". Nor have I read them. I'm sorry I don't have a better response at the moment for Class0f65, perhaps in the future.
Where is the "West Bank?" I heard of Paris' Left Bank. I even heard of "West Bank" used when Jordan illegally OCCUPIED Judea-Samaria. But 45 years since the IDF kicked out Jordan, Israelis still call it the "West Bank!" Let's stop shooting ourselves -- leave that up to the radical Islamic "martyrs."
