Jerusalem (1997)

Today's Golden Odie cartoon is from July 1997. I posted it because of this piece of late-breaking news:
"Born in Jerusalem?: "The question of Jerusalem's sovereignty is going to the U.S. Supreme Court, but not to resolve the Middle East conflict. M.B.Z. v. Clinton is instead about the power of the U.S. president to decide if the passports of Jerusalem-born Americans list "Israel" as their birthplace, the New York Times reports. More broadly, the justices suggested they will decide whether a related 2002 law infringes on the president's power to recognize foreign sovereigns. More narrowly, the case is about Menachem Zivotofsky, who was born in the holy city. His parents want "Israel" rather than "Jerusalem" to be his formal birthplace, and so did Congress when it passed the law directing the State Department to record Jerusalem births as having taken place in Israel. Presidents George W. Bush and Barack Obama say this unconstitutionally limits their powers, since U.S. policy for six decades has been to leave Jerusalem's status to Israel and the Palestinians."- see sourceSo what do you think about George W. and Obama's agreement on this issue?
Labels: Bush, Congress, George w., Israel, Jerusalem, Obama, Palestinians

This, IMHO, will bring the curse of Gen. 12:3 on every president who fails to move the U.S. Embassy from Tel Aviv to Yerushalayim.
Of my four grandchildren, three have been born in Jerusalem. That is, Jerusalem, ISRAEL! Failure to list their birthplace as Israel is just the latest in a long string of utterly ridiculous decisions by the US government. Nowhere else in the world is a birthplace listed as just a city without a country!
George W. Bush, the clown who won the presidency twice by cheating both times is a War Criminal and all around jerk. Unfortunately, he lives less than 30 miles from me; that is TOO CLOSE. Fortunately, neither he nor President Obama have cursed us. The Arabs think that they are going to get half of Jerusalem when they finally get a state, but don't anyone hold their breath. The UN Resolution states clearly states that the blasted Arabs accept a Jewish state and then AND ONLY THEN they can talk about getting part of Jerusalem. But they probably will never receive it. Googoe UN Resolution 242. Grab the one that says Security Council dated 11/22/67.q
The USA is supposed to be moving the embassy to Jerusalem. Each year they put it off, again. But they never put it off because they say that Jerusalem isn't part of Israel. Even the UN, who probably wants to give all of Jerusalem to the arabs, would (chas v'shalom) begin by giving only the eastern part. That implies that they're not arguing about the western part where Bikur Cholim, Shaarei Tzedek and Hadassah Ein Kerem are located. A lot of babies are born in these three hospitals. So why isn't the USA willing to write that on a birth certificate? If I were born in Jerusalem in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Maryland, Michigan, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Utah, or Vermont, would the state department be willing to leave off the state?
It shows the absurdity of calling George Bush a "Right Wing Conservative"-the President who gave America the biggest entitlement program ever (Medicare Part D) and pumped out the FIRST (almost) trillion dollar bailout. He is only conservative in contrast to Barry Soetoro.
Bones, I wish some of your commenters would stick to the subject.
@ Sheldon Dan~ Omein!!!
Actually it's "Amen".
You're using an "Alef" in the word "Amen".
Great cartoon! Well, what do you think would HaShem's reaction would be? ;-))
The American refusal to recognize the Jewish history and sovereignty of their Israeli capital Jerusalem is, to me, the most powerful proof that the USA cannot claim to be a "friend" of Israel.--Ronny
