Bibi and Mr. History

Bibi Netanyahu, Obama, and the judgement of history : Dry Bones cartoon.
Israel's struggle for survival is fought on a "minute to minute" basis. Everything is urgent and immediate.

As we watch our current Prime Minister, Bibi Netanyahu, attempt to resist the pressure exerted by yet another American President, I have the feeling that "we've been in this movie before" ...and for one brief moment I wondered how the longer view from the perspective of history will judge him ...and us.

So I drew today's cartoon.

May HashShem give Nethanyahu the strength to act in the interests of Bene Yisra’el and the State of Israel and not to do anything stupid in the name of international politics!

This is Bibi's second chance, and he totally messed up the first time. I don't think he'll get a third chance, so he better do the right thing for ISRAEL, not for his ego or for some stupid prize... which he won't get anyway.

My dear Yaakov, I respectfully disagree.
I hope we'll f2f at the jblogger fest.

There is naught to resist. Many of us feel strongly that we do not have a "President." We have a misfit, a pretender to the throne, who had nothing in his background to qualify him for this post. And his actions vis a vis Israel prove this out.

A charlatan with strong ties to the Muslim community, and a man mentored by the anti semites he surrounded himself with.

I hope he puts it all on the table and points out that first things must come first and these are
1. The new American administration's hostility toward Israel and very overt favoritism toward its enemies.
2. Iran building a nuclear bomb and
3.The Palestinians being unwilling to accept Israel's right to exist as a Jewish State.
Until these problems are sorted out, it is difficult for Israel to worry about or co-operate on smaller issues. This tack, in my book, will qualify him as a statesman.

Resisting the pressure from an American President who has the following view of history:

“These rituals remind us of the principles that we hold in common, and Islam’s role in advancing justice, progress, tolerance, and the dignity of all human beings.”

"...by yet another American President"? Are you kidding? america has always stood by israel, no matter what happened. but that wasn't fair and didn't bring peace to the middle east. Give obama some time and he'll show you the results of his new approach. And IMO Nethanyahu will obey him soon or later.

If PBO actually said this then he's a lot dumber than I thought.

In any case, Israel's right to defend herself is NOT contingent on the policies of the United States, or of any other nation. Israel must do what Israel believes is necessary.

I am a follower of Jesus. I pray for Nethanyahu to be strong and not listen to Obama. There are millions of Americans who love and support Israel. I wish one of them would run for president.

If Israel is to "resist" the suggestions and guidance of the US, I hope you would also expect it to "resist" the temptation of all the money and support the US gives too.

There's no such thing as a free lunch, folks.

The funds Israel received is paltry beside what is given and has been given to the Arab community. The biggest difference is Israel uses the money to expand science and eduation and industries supporting the scientific research and 99 % of what is developed is acquired by the US as THE Israeli SCIENTITISTS seem to be better/smarter/ more adept at quickly comming up with a technical solituion, and that the most and are more secure in their findings as opposed to the libturds that run our campuses today and will tell anything to embarrass the US.

Arabs use the funds they get to line the pockets of their rulers and nothing makes it down to their peoples

Okay, I understand why people of all persuasions don't want their money, much less billions of dollars of their money, simply doled out. This might be even more galling if they perceive that this money isn't being well-spent or appreciated. However, at the end of the day, the above argument is, with all due respect, rubbish.

So why is American aid to Israel not really a free lunch? Let's give a brief breakdown:

1. Jobs- We use this money to create American jobs. Most of this money must be spent inside of the USA--only in the case of special dispensations can it be spent in Israel--so we are basically paying ourselves to build equipment and goods that otherwise wouldn't be built.

2. Military support- Israel has often learned, with its own blood, how to deal with new weapon systems. This happened all throughout the Cold War when Israel fought its major wars (eg- 1973 and learning to defeat the SAM threat, then passing on this info. to the USA). Today Israel passes on tactical training to the US military on urban warfare which helped immensely as we prepared to head into Iraq a few years back. Whether it was one, two, dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of young American lives saved, no one will ever know; what is known is that Israeli experience has often saved American lives. Isn't that worth some money? If it isn't... well, then you get to tell that to the grieving families at the funerals, deal? But there's more...

3. Intelligence and technology- Israel has captured immense amounts of equipment over the decades and this has always been shared with the USA. This intel. and tech. sharing gave the USA an incredible advantage during the Cold War, giving the USA hands on intel. on what was then Soviet state of the art capabilities. This intel. was simply not able to be bought, at any price, and was a key component in allowing the USA to make more focused technological investments.

Of course, this is a brief history... and yes, Israel has benefited as well, but this has not been charity; it is a quid pro quo.

tpkatsa writes, "If PBO actually said this then he's a lot dumber than I thought." He DID say that... and he is - that, or he's just showing his true face.

Anonymous refers to "all the money and support the US gives". Why are you and your kind always focusing on the money (aid and loans) Israel gets from the US, but never mention the even greater sums provided to Egypt, Jordan, the Palestinians and Lebanon? The US at least gets much of value from Israel. What do the others provide beyond grief?

Bibi's first try at being a pm failed quite nicely in that he went down in flames without scorching his political life too badly

During this second try of being a viable pm fighting like a tiger for Israel is still suspect of being a bit of an appeaser to U.S. pressure. As we wait and see what will be, we should look forward to those polls behind the curtain who are waiting to take his place.

Ah the life of a poll is promises galore with little follow through. What a way to make a living, eh?

Basically the money is given to Israel EVERY YEAR for the last 61 YEARS. That money is in form or weaponry that KILLS INNOCENT ARABS and EVEN AMERICAN PRESIDENTS(JFK) The rest of the money is used as aid for SALARY AND HOUSING FOR IMMIGRANTS TO ISRAEL.
THE money for the Arabs is mostly plegdes and only a small fraction gets delivered. Plus pledging has only been going on less than 20 years.
