Shabbat Shalom and Happy Chag Succot!

 Shabbat Shalom and Happy Succot. The holiday of Succot (or Sukkot), (or Tabernacles) starts tonight, Friday, and lasts for one week. This is a joyful holiday where we eat and sit and often sleep in flimsy temporary huts with leaf or thatch or bamboo mats for roofs, so that we can still see the sky and stars above and we are part with nature and reminded of our fragile existence. It commemorates the trek through the desert from ancient Egypt under divine protection. In Israel, it is also the Autumn harvest festival.

The whole month is filled with holidays, and almost no real work gets done. And then we finally go back to work until Hannukah in the winter.
