Israel Independence Day

Yesterday we marked Remembrance Day in memoriam of the nation's 22,570 fallen, both soldiers and civilians. The count is comprised of those who gave their lives for the State of Israel from 1860 and on, and includes members of the Jewish Brigade and all branches of the Israeli armed forces – the military, police, the Shin Bet and the Mossad. The past year has seen 133 new names added to the somber count. A sombre day of sadness and introspection.

Every independence day I feel sad. Why? Because many Jews, religious and otherwise endlessly like old people re-hashing the same old tired agrument about the state, flag, Zionism, forcing the hand (or not) of G-d. In spite of the fact in the siddur it reads "many are the thoughts in the heart of man, but it is the counsel of Lord that prevails". Our return to the land is a gift from G-d and we prattle like chickens over nothing. Note, our enemies in spite of their divisions amongst themselves do not question the certainty of their cause or their nations origins. Today, in my shul...arguments erupt over al hanissim or not, hallel or not...it makes me very ill to my stomach. I cannot help but think that G-d sees all of this and gets angry at the ingratitude of many Jews. Like spoiled children, we cannot say thank you...yet we want more. So, I drink a L'chaim to our returned nation to the land and see a couple of places. Lastly, in the US...from the early days til now, most if not all Americans do not argue over the stuff we do on Independence Day and the founding fathers acknoweldge G-d's hand in creating a new nation there...but here it is different. Are we that blind and stupid to see the miracles and G-d's hand in everything? G-d help us even though at times I do not think we deserve it.
Please pardon my ignorance. You celebrate today? Not May 14th? Someone please teach me why.
Happy Birthday! Indeed He has given this great gift of returning His chosen people to the homeland which He gave them over 4,000 years ago.
How His heart yearns for His people to turn to Him and He will heal their land and provide endless blessings. Happy Birthday!

May the GOD of Abraham,Isaac and Jacob make His face shine upon Israel.
And to my friend Anonymous who said "Are we that blind to see the miricles of GOD's hand in everything" My friend despite the errors of people, GOD is still smart enough to accomplish HIS purpose despite our use of our free will and the errors of our ways. Praise GOD that He does this.
Once again A Very Happy Birthday to you Israel.

Baruch Hashem for you and yours and do take care of your selves.
Baruch Hashem for the Great State of Israel, in the Perek Shirah which I read it says that it shall stand till the end of days, I totally agree.
Please that all should be well and enjoy the festive days.
Shalom, Shalom,
Happy Birthday Israel!
And an eternity more!
Happy 61st and many, many blessings!
Dear Stan and anonymous
To add to the confusion, we celebrate by the Hebrew calender. Our year is solar, but the months adhere to the phases of the moon. In 1948, May 14th coincided with the 5th of the month of Iyyar, which is today.
Happy Independence Day!
May the Israelis be free from their corrupt oligarchy and declare economic independence from the United States, and become all that they are destined to be - a holy people in the Holy Land of Israel.
61 years and counting to Israel's ultimate birthday, at the coming of the moshiach.
Israel, like reality, is a wonderful, frightening, humdrum, exciting cauldron of contradictions and harmony, pettiness and daily heroism, giant issues and pilpul, and has stolen and captivated my freely-given heart.
Shine on, Israel!
Dear Israelites : )
Happy birthday to all of you on
14th May. This special day is also my birthday.
