Today's Golden Oldie is from 1974. Back then, stone-throwing mobs of
Haredim ensured that the sabbath was not violated by vehicles driving through
Mea Shearim, their main Jerusalem neighborhood.
* * * This cartoon is particularly pertinent today, 33 years later, in 2007 because we've had several days of stone-throwing mobs of Haredim trying to ensure that Jerusalem is not violated by a
Gay Pride Parade. The parade is scheduled for later today. The police will be out in force, as will the religious protesters, and the gay and lesbian marchers. Starting at 2PM the center of the city will be closed to traffic.
I, on the other hand, will be in Jerusalem today for an appointment with a dentist at 1PM. So with a little bad luck I'll get caught in the action... and who knows, I might even get stoned!
