Respect for Life
Israel's both strength and weakness is it's respect for life. Here is a cartoon of Yaakov's from 2014.
Today all of Israel goes to vote. We have an old but reliable system where after being checked for our identity, we get an envelope and go into a booth, behind a curtain and choose a piece of paper with the symbol of the party that we want, and seal it in the envelope and come out and drop it into a big cardboard or plastic box. The ballots are mostly counted by the next morning. There is no absentee voting, except by Israeli diplomats abroad.
The not so good part is that we have about 20 parties to choose from. And we don't vote for a person, but only for the party, and that with so many parties, the real results are left to the parties negotiating to make a coalition of a minimum of 61 seats in the knesset. And those negotiation are usually a messy free for all. Lots of campaign promises are broken, and very small parties often have a very big influence, and as often happened in the past, no 61 seat coalition can be formed and we have to go to new elections. I hope that does not happen this time. But there is a very good chance that it will. We will find out soon.
In the meantime, enjoy the cartoon. love, Sali
