Why is January 27 so important?
January 27 is a special day.
Auschwitz-Birkenau was the largest of the Nazi death camps. It was in Poland. In 1945, As invading Soviet soldiers approached, almost 60,000 prisoners were forced by their captors to leave the Polish camp on a death march westward towards Germany.
About 7,000 prisoners were left behind in the Camp. On January 27, 1945, the Soviet soldiers reached the camp and freed those left. The date (January 27) is recognized as International Holocaust Remembrance Day of the estimated 6 million Jews, 2 million Roma, 250,000 mentally and physically disabled people, and 9,000 homosexual men murdered by the Nazis and their collaborators.January 27 is a special day.Just click on the link below:
