Bones

I started Dry Bones in Jan 1973. Since then I've been known as "Bones" to friends and colleagues. This is the first time I've ever shared the "stories behind the cartoons." Enjoy.

Definitely an out of the regular order of things occurence, which begs answers.
However, he (and I) can still remember JP2 who hung on with his fingernails to the bitter end.
Maybe he wants to live out the rest of his life quietly rocking on the porch, watching game shows on the box.

Pope Benedikt XVI has done a great deal to clean up the Church from antisemitic stuff. He is counted among the Germans as a brilliant scholar and humble man. Is it really right on the part of a Jew to scorn and belittle him in this unkind way?

I'm often tempted to just delete the offensive, angry, aggressive, änd small-minded comments by Ariel Ben Yochanan who seems to think that he speaks for all "real Jews". He does not.

I can see the "just following orders" still echoing.
For too many in the Christian community, hanging a swastika on Benedict because he is hardline on things that the secular, under Levitical law might well be cast out, stoned, burned or a combination of the above, want to slide on.
Some of them want the US to just follow orders.

- Thank you Yaakov for not deleting my stuff. As far as the merit of your text is concerned, I never pretended to speak for all Jews, it is you who does that. I express the opinion of and sign for one Jew; myself. Good for you Bones, that the xtians are with you! [Ironic of course.] Let me quickly mention here that the Jews don't go by the majority of laymen, we go by the Truth. Torah is not democracy and democracy is not Torah. The Rambam, (Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon 1138 – 1204 Spain and Egypt) specifically mentions in his Hilichot Avodat Zara (Laws of Idol worshipping) that we, ordinary Jews, should not occupy ourselves with the affairs of the gentiles: "All these prohibitions have one common thrust: that one should not pay attention to idol worship.. We should not turn our minds to these matters, think about them, or be drawn after the thoughts of our hearts”. (Chapter 2, Halacha 3) I understand that this is not the path organized Jewry follows, Roman Jews even have the habit to invite popes into their main synagogue, where they arrive with their bishops, all wearing their huge golden crosses and their following making signs of the cross. So, here you are, there is a long way to sink much lower in the name of "inter-religious dialogue". I wonder when will they open up a shul (Synagogue) in the Vatican, in the name of the same, hm, xtian "friend" of Israel?

What I can't figure out is why Ariel Ben Yochanan feels so possessed to comment about obviously non-Torah items. First the humour, then the Pope? It's like the outside world is making it's way into his little cell!
Bones, another great comment on current affairs. Keep it up and we should all look forward to many, many more years of your wonderful work.
