Evil

My job is commenting on the news. Somjetimes a daunting task. Like dealing with another American gun spree slaughter of schoolkids in another American school. Pure evil.

It's my turn to write an editorial for a village church magazine, and I had to write about it. I have to write it now to get everything printed before things start closing down for the holidays. I tried to put my head into January and new year's resulutions etc etc but it wasn't happening. As you say, a daunting task.
Norway isn't the only country with nuts with guns. Now there will be a knee jerk reaction and another attempt to take away American gun. If one person in that school had been armed they could have stopped the slaughter instead they were helpless. May G-d give comfort to the survivors.
this time of year back in pagan rome was when children were sacrificed to saturn - the festival was called the saturnalia.
Abraham turned his back on Moloch -but I think in the brave new world he's found new friends.
Eleanor, you are so right! The biggest problem in the US is spiritual, but there are so many practical problems as well. Sinners will sin (that's what they do) unless they see a reason not to. Until probable or potential consequences outweigh the reason for bad choices, stuff like this will continue to happen. Thank you for your prayers!
We threw G-d out of the schools back in the 70's and things have declined ever since. Our schools are just part of the national culture that has rejected G-d and now welcomes every demonic evil. What Bones said describes the situation to a "T".
This is totally tasteless in view of the tragic nature of the event. A Jewish blog should show more sensitivity because of our history. Shame on you.
The Swiss who have government issued assault rifles in the hands of every able bodied male don't seem to have an issue with these massacres and I don't see IDF members or reservists with access to fully automatic weapons slaughtering innocents (outside the claims of Hamas and Hizbollah blood libels). The firearsm issue is one of tyranny and control.
David Hurwitz:
Sorry that you think that Christians would be offended by this cartoon ...or that it is in bad taste. And why in the world do you think that Jews. both American and not, have no share in the mourning of this hideous, satanic event?
Bones
It is our Culture, stupid.
The Progressives who are hankering for more restrictive fire arms laws brought this upon our society. There is no longer a morality, a sense of Right and Wrong, no consequences for stupid deeds or wrong doing, no individual responsibilities, only "rights". Certainly the violence portrayed in the media also contributed to the evil manifested by the murderer.
It's not the guns that kill people
It's the pyschos that kill people
People get killed in cars, does
that mean no one should drive cars
anymore. Ridiculous. Beware of
people on drugs or unusual behavior
than worrying about how many guns
someone may own. I just pray that
some disturbed person that has
watched TV news don't get the same
idea. What can people expect when
everything on TV, movies, games all
display violence that young people
watch and play everyday. I pray
for the relatives of those that
were killed in Connecticut. God,
give them peace and comfort with
their grieving.
Well, you know what? I've read reports that there was a guy who had a clear shot at the assailant, but didn't do it because he allowed himself to be influenced by someone who didn't want him to shoot.
Truthfully, all I can say in light of that information is that if guns were more proliferated in this area, then this tragedy would never have happened... As someone else who did have the guts to shoot the then would-be assailant could have done so, and saved the lives of all those people.
To note, the school was a gun-free zone. So, the two people in the vicinity who had access to weaponry were both breaking the law... But one of them had the intention of massacring the people in the school. As well, most [if not all] of the shootings that have occurred did so in gun-free zones.
Just something to think about.
D Hurwitz: 'tasteless'
Terrible, unthinkable - the whole thing.
I'm Catholic - this cartoon said what everyone I know is thinking - thank God.
p.s. from another blog:
"Front Sight, a firearms training school in Nevada, is offering to train 3 staff members from every school, college, and university in the US in the defensive use of firearms, and they are offering to train them for free. Would even a mentally unbalanced man try to commit mass-murder in a place which he knows has armed staff on hand who are trained and capable of stopping him in his tracks? Here’s an idea. Why don’t we make it a law for all schools to have armed and trained individuals on staff? That’s the only kind of gun-control that will keep this tragedy from happening again."
if evil knew it would have some resistance the worst case scenario of the defensless might not happen.
"In the wake of another horrific national tragedy, it’s easy to talk about guns. But it’s time to talk about mental illness."
