The God Particle
THEY'VE DONE IT!Scientists have "seen" the absolutely smallest sub-atomic particle there is!For sure!
So they're all ecstatic!Except, of course, for the scientist who blinked ...and the cynics who still have doubts.

What do you mean "the GOD particle?" There is no such thing as "God!"
(Atheists are great! They spend all their time trying to prove something doesn't exist. If something really doesn't exist, there is no need at all to prove it!!! Do you every hear of anyone trying to prove the tooth-fairy doesn't exist?. The ones I have met have taken the time to assure me they are really the nicest people who really practice the Biblical command "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you." If G-d doesn't exist, what's the difference! OR they say they don't believe in G-d because how could G-d allow such suffering and injustice in the world? (Don't tell them this, but they DO believe God, or they wouldn't have this dilemma, how could their concept of G-d connect with this screwed up planet? (See the Book of Genesis) And if G-d really doesn't exist why waste your time worrying about Biblical and Theological and moral issues like "suffering" "justice" or "right and wrong."} DOES THIS MAKE ANY SENSE OR AM I JUST RAMBLING, HELP ME OUT HERE!
Somebody please get a grip!
The finding of the Higgs Boson is a scientific triumph because it completes what is called the Standard Model for the structure of matter. For a lovely review of this issue, see P. 70 of the July SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN.
I don’t know which mi’vubal / confused journalist coined the term “god particle,” but it has no more to do with theology than the electron or Einstein’s Special and General Relativity. Casting the finding in these terms belittles both science and religion.

Beware of evoking Him needlessly!

Astounding..The scientists who who are amazed at the discovery of "THE G-D PARTICLE" didn't read Genesis. "In the beginning, G-D created etc."
It seems that we Jews have been learning this new discovery for thousands of years.
I value scientific study and do not blink my eyes, niether should the scientists.
AM YISRAEL CHAI and SHABBAT SHALOM to all.
When I was in primary school, the atom was the absolute smallest object; then it divided into parts which were the ABSOLUTE smallest particles. Now we have the Higgs Bosonm, a/k/a "god particle." As for a threat to religion: Where did the "original" particle (whatever size) originate? I cannot deny a superior being which I define as "God."
I can't see what all the uproar is about. G-D created this "G-D particle". We just now saw this creation.
Humanity trying to recreate the big bang by means of a 15 km. diameter tube under the Swiss mountains, somehow reminds me of another human endeavor to get on a physical plane with God - the Tower of Bable. We all know how that ended.
Assuming we(humanity)do work out what the big bang was all about - how will that benefit humanity over the next say 1,000 years?
The Higgs boson is one of the largest (i.e. most massive) subatomic partical known yet, not the smallest. It is over 125 the mass of the proton.
Here is how it got to be called "The God Particle." That is the name of the book about the history of particle physics written by Nobel Laureate in Physics Leon Lederman. (It is a good read, by the way.) He referred to it as the "Goddam particle" because it is so elusive. He jokingly suggested it as the title and the editor took it from there. He describes this in the introduction to the book.

Thanks, SBPS. Nobody in the Physics community refers to the Higgs boson as the "God particle". That's something the press latched on to because it makes for good headlines. (And probably also because it offends religious people of all faiths.)
I agree with Shamino, and will add nothing to what he said.
