Today's Golden Oldie cartoon is from January 1982. Lech Walesa, a leader of the "solidarity" movement was being held in prison by the Polish Communist government. Here we are, exactly 30 years later, Lech Walesa is the former president of a free and Democratic Poland! ...and, according to a report published just yesterday:

Old News. Society has become more decadent for a number of reasons:
1) Not having to fight for liberty & political participation makes you take it for granted
2) Materialism has drawn working Parents away from home, where they ought to educate their kids and toward money which they will use... to pay their kids to watch TV, DVDs, video games, etc. instead of participate actively in society.
That's not 20 years ago, but 30, Yaakov!

As one who was born there 80 years ago and I had to run to England 65 years ago, because of deadly attacks on Jews by Poles after the war. I'm still somewhat familiar with the Polish scene and I would like to remind your fans that Lech Walesa is a blabbermouth, depending on how the wind blows. When campaigning for office he referred to Jews as not 'true Poles' when there were few of them left. Now, as an older statesman he can afford to mellow a little.
Ketzele is correct. I can remember when Walesa was outspoken on anti-Semitism.
The polish communist party has missed to disabuse about the anti Semitic attacks of the polish collaborators during the WW2. But they have prevented any kind of such real violence! After the revolution in Poland we could see the result of all: anti Semitic and xenophobic behavior tolerated by the government to distract from the redistributing of the richness to the new leader class. And - of course - to have new old responsible enemies for the consequence of the system transmission.
