Seeing Doobie sitting om a chair opposite Shuldig in the Succah, I was reminded me of an old remark of Chazal: "Toward the coming of the Mashiach, p'nei ha-dor ke-pnei ha-kelev". It matters not a whit that the "kelev" is a smiling charmer like Doobie (I'm a great Doobie fan).
That's what the summer holiday protest tents were all about, that's what Trachtenberg is all about and that is what the Shalit deal is all about.
You don't get it?
What does a dog do? It runs ahead of its master slobbering, barking and wagging its tail, thinking that everyone is following it. If the master changes direction the dog runs back and continues doing the same thing.
That is a fairly accurate description of our populist media driven national leadership.
Again now, what were the tent protests, Trachtenberg and the Shalit fiasco all about?
I started Dry Bones in Jan 1973. Since then I've been known as "Bones" to friends and colleagues. This is the first time I've ever shared the "stories behind the cartoons." Enjoy. more

May you Yaacov, and your fans worldwide, be honoured with a visit of the Ushpizin in your Succah.
