Are we in an economic depression? Are we unwilling to admit it? Those questions sparked today's offering, which is one of the cartoons I posted before leaving for China on a university speaking tour sponsored by SIGNAL (the Sino Israel Global Network Academic Leadership).
I plan to return home to Israel on or about November 1st.

“Recession is when your neighbor loses his job. Depression is when you lose yours. And recovery is when Jimmy Carter loses his.” ― Ronald Reagan
Just replace Jimmy Carter with Barack Obama to update it!

More. We are in a melt-down and the worst still has to come. The accumulated world trillions of debt is crashing down on us and on our unsustainable fiat money system. The salvation? Easy: Torah economics. What is Torah economics? A commodity, gold and silver based currency issued not as a loan by central banks, but by society for society, under strict, interest free conditions to Jews, with periodic corrections, with Shmita and Jubilee years re-setting the accounts back to zero. It is a perfect, G-d given system and of course no "Bank of Israel" comes even close to it: The State is anything but Jewish, everything it does is learned from the nations, instead of being the other way round. And, of course, we have to pay the consequences for our national stupidity and arrogance. So, I’m not complaining. Just telling you folks, there IS a better way: G-d’s.
G-d forbid it's a depression, though until the ship is righted, you cannot rule anything out. A depression is a downwaed cycle of prices. Receipts decline so companies lose money. There is no liquidity in the markets. Company after company closes after they are unable to make a profit or even break even. We are still in the wake of both an asset bubble melt down and a banking crises, with the addtition soveriegn debt crises of varying levels. The reality is it takes a long time to get out of a mess like this. There are no easy answers. Just pay down the debts & hope massive inflation doesn't follow the massive liquidity that has been pumped into the system to save it...from depression. Required reading.. the book/textbook.. "This Time Is Different" (Hint..the title is fecicious).
Hold onto your hat's folks, it is going to get MUCH WORSE and may take quite awhile before we see daylight again. The reason? Three little letters: GOP. The Republicans WANT to destroy our economy so that they can cut social programs such as Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and agencies such as the EPA.
Once we are drowning with no money going into the government's coffers, they'll just try to kill anything that is good for human beings so that they can greedily rape the country and reap profits like you wouldn't believe.
The EPA, they claim, is losing jobs because of the terrible regulations they have made. Sure, we don't need to reduce air pollution because as W once said "there is no air pollution, just some particulate matter in the air."
The regulations they want to get rid of cover unimportant things in their view: Air, water and trees. Who needs trees anyway? They just clutter up the view they want to see: Unrestricted strip mining, arsenic in our water supplies that is accumulative in the human body and cannot be filtered out without industrial strength scrubbers.
The Republicans care more about President Obama not getting a second term than they are about the country as a whole. They have stated that unseating Obama is THE most important thing, so they are unwilling to do a single thing that will help the nation. Too bad that none of their parents ever married.
