Tu B'shvat (1998)

Today's Golden Oldie is a Dry Bones cartoon thet was done for Tu B'Shvat in 1998. The holiday this year, in 2010, is January 30. I picked this cartoon because I think it communicates something that lurks deep within our culture. It's why we fall for every "cause". It's why we're in Haiti. It's why we plant trees. We feel a unique and genetic sense of responsibility for just about everything. It's what we call Jewish Guilt.

"Jewish Guilt is felt by many non-Jews, too.
You should ask my mother.
We're no longer in Haiti. The field hospital was packed up four days ago, and everybody is already home.
As soon as the cameras stopped clicking, the tents were rolled up. PR move if I ever saw one
Dear Mr. Dotan Cohen,
It saddens me that boneheads like you, who hate your country and your own people, never have a good word to say about anything.
Firstly, the cameras stopped clicking after the first few days.
Secondly, if the tent are now unrolled in Gaza, would you call that a PR stunt?
My advice to you: Seek help, the best that money can buy. You need it.
Barring that, take a long walk off a short pier so that hopefully your tainted genes never replicate.
Hey Robbie, thanks for the insult. "Hate my country and never have a good thing to say"? This is the first time that I have ever been critical of my country. I'm a bonehead because you cannot accept any warranted criticism of Israel?
Tell me, where did you get that fake American name? Doesn't sound very Jewish or Israeli to me. Oh, right, but you are so proud.
Bones,
I am afraid that you might want to moderate these posts before you allow them to be displayed.
The exchange between Dotan Cohen and Robbie served no purpose. Insults are not needed here. I realize that everyone is entitled to his/her opinion, but "boneheads," "seek help" (note to Robbie: Unsolicited advice is not likely to be followed), "take a long walk on a short pier so that hopefully your tainted genes never replicate" (How can you make that statement about someone you probably don't know?),and "fake American name...Doesn't sound very Jewish or Israeli to me" (Mr. Cohen, why can't his name be "Jewish or Israeli" and why should it, for that matter? So what is wrong with the name he chose/has?)
I enjoy your work. But some people can take the pleasure out of it.
Bones!
Love these! LOL! You and I could share a laugh when I'm trying to pronounce Tu B'shvat. But you could teach me. The 'toon reminds me that The Heavenly Father told us to "replenish" and restore. I like that. I think we should imitate Him in this way. Didja ever think about it? The One Eternal was way ahead of us in this "stewardship" business.... lol!
Thanks, Bones!
