Michael Jackson

A lot happened during the past week, but my American informants assure me that the death of Michael Jackson was what dominated their screens and riveted their Media interest. With others around the world, I used the Internet to tune into a streaming video "feed" of the Memorial. But as I watched, I couldn't shake the idea that no one had loved this talented and tormented person enough to get him into treatment. And the televised ceremony seemed, to me at least, to be an uncomfortable attempt to cleanse all of us of guilt ...even those of use who were just guilty of being amused and entertained by his increasingly bizarre and freakish appearance. So what do YOU think?

Tastefully bland, and non-offensive, unlike some of his remarks/lyrics about Jews.
I just read an article recently about how our need for a Savior and Messiah is so great that we will elevate anyone who has a placebo or a "fix it" formula to a level of Messiah,,,enter Michael Jackson (placebo/ mood altering drug) or Barak Obama (will is claiming to fix the world) Problem whit the idea is that not only dont they fix the world they put us into slavery. Anything we place above the king of king and Lord of Lords, HaShem, is idolatry. We will reap what we sow...or allow them to sow for us.

A minstrel dies. An anti semitic, drug using pedophile who refused to be black. His memorial was way over done and ill deserved. A serviceman fighting for freedom died the same day; Farrah Fawcett died that week as did Ed McMahon, a man who served his country honorably and went on to provide hours of clean entertainment on the Tonight Show. These folks deserved acclaim not this slime.
A freak dies millions in debt and he gets a gold coffin. Beyond belief, as is his spokesman, Al Sharpton, another fraud. I feel a sense of shame for our nation and those who attended.
Michael Jackson will be missed by some.
I thank Hashem for the event as the small children will be safe from another like this one.
I'm sorry for what killed him, but yes I too have heard the awful things he said and sang about in the things which he said about the Jews.
To have any connection to the Messiah he'd be the last one to think about as far as that was conserned. A child predator isn't anything like that.
Anyway and any how, it's nice to watch his memorial.

The Michael Jackson memorial was followed by something like 30 million people: a media event. I think it was produced to generate copyright revenue for the coming years. And in this, it has probably succeeded. When it comes to Jackson’s anti-Semitism, well there are those who argue that Wagner's music is only music and as such it is void of ideology. I don’t agree with this. Anyhow, on a practical note, I wonder what could be done to defuse this movie to the general public. This film, “Islam: What the West Needs to Know” is a must. It needs to be seen truly by everyone!
I am miffed that people can judge so freely. Michael was a target for predators in the world who fed of his infamy. It is between him and God, nobody else should judge him. I would love a Neverland to live in and see why he sought sanctuary there from the world. The house was tasteful and looked serene. Who could he trust. If he was hooked on medication someone should have intervened. I guess it was convenient for all the people who took his money. His is the Petit Prince as Brooke said.
I am sure it is why he called his boys Prince.....a beautiful and complex book and a complex misunderstood man........Only MJ and God knows the truth.
A talent that has left too soon. Shame on his family for allowing it to happen. So so sad for his childen.
Celebrity is not a little out of whack with reality, it's WAY out of whack. MJ knew that, and like most knew how to handle that divide. But in his own personal life he seemed endlessly miserable and totally unable to cope with much of anything. Here was truly a man who never got a break from the madness.
But he was indeed a great artist, as far as dancing and singing and performing, and we still have his albums and videos and stuff. Many artists have tough lives, but what they produce remains as an inspiration.
You want to live in Neverland? Neverland was just a seduction pit for vulnerable boys. MJ's bedroom had a peephole and a lock. Why would that be?
micheal is pop of kings of kings he achieved more and more in his life but time is not in his hand so god is love more him thats why taken him early
neither amused nor entertained by his increasingly bizarre and freakish appearance. only progressively repelled.
Well said Bones: I never liked him, didn't like his music, but who am I to Judge.
It was the first time, after reading the blogs that I found out that he did not like Jews, so I must have been right all along
Bones,
The cartoon is too kind. He died they same way he lived in a drugged stopper. I think the whole memorial service was a big joke and the fools that watched and went to it probably never will get it. It is no wonder he was an anti semitic after all he was raised as a Jehovah's Witness. Jehovah's Witnesses" declare that the Jewish people have no special role in the Divine Plan since the death of Jesus. They also believe many of their own members are a "spiritual Israel". So you see he was delusional from the start !
MJ needed physical, mental, and spiritual counseling. Instead, all he got was millions of dollars, mindlessly adoring fans, and a collection of "YES" men and women who depended on him for their livelihoods. Few, if any, of the people close to him had the intestinal fortitude (GUTS!) to say "NO!" to his increasingly bizarre and immoral whims. He leaves behind an unknown number of victims, not the least of which are the mentally-screwed-but-financially-well-off children he bought and paid for by the two women he "married", and I use that term loosely as marriage requires sexual attraction, love, and commitment, and Jackson seems to have experienced all but three of those throughout his life.
Just another symptom of America in its terminal stage leading the increasingly mad world to total insanity with compulsion to worship unworthy idols - Princess Di, Jackson, Obama, hysterics by Islam around the world. Some of us managed to ignore that sad child in life as well as to ignore the circus of his death. By devoting a few frames to him in your blog you have become guilty of participation in the madness. And who cares what he thought of Jews. Being hated by freaks is a compliment.
Michael Jackson In-Memoriam
Michael Joseph Jackson was born August 29, 1958 in Gary, Indiana, an industrial suburb of Chicago. The son of African-American parents Joseph Walter "Joe" Jackson and Katherine Esther Scruse, he was the seventh of nine children. His siblings are Rebbie, Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, La Toya, Marlon, Randy and Janet. Joseph Jackson was a steel mill employee who often performed in an R&B band called The Falcons with his brother Luther. Jackson was raised as a Jehovah's Witness by his devout mother. Joseph Jackson has an additional daughter named Joh Vonnie Jackson who is actually the youngest sibling of Michael Jackson. The family lived at 2300 Jackson St., near Roosevelt Park; Michael often reflected that he wanted to play with neighborhood children but was rarely allowed because of the incessant rehearsals demanded by his father.

Jackson had a notable impact on music and culture throughout the world. He broke down racial barriers, transformed the art of the music video and paved the way for modern pop music in his own country.

On June 25, 2009, Jackson collapsed at his rented mansion at 100 North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles. Attempts at resuscitating him by his personal physician were unsuccessful. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics received a 911 call at 12:22 p.m. (PDT), arriving three minutes and seventeen seconds later at Jackson's location. He was reportedly not breathing and CPR was performed. Resuscitation efforts continued both en route to the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center, and for an hour further after arriving at approximately 1:13 p.m. (20:13 UTC). He was noted to have been in cardiac arrest by the paramedics who attended him at his house. Jackson was pronounced dead at approximately 2:26 p.m. local time (21:26 UTC). Rumors and news of Jackson's death broke web records, triggering a cyberspace traffic jam and creating severe traffic spikes to websites such as Google, Facebook, Twitter and Wikipedia. Vigils were held by members of the general public after the death.

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009), his music will live forever.
Even though I pay attention to the news via print and TV, I had not realized that MJ was anti-semitic until these postings. However if his anti-semtic leanings are due to how he was brought up as a JW and goes no further than that like the other JW's, then that aspect can be dropped in any condemnation of him. I recall interviews with some sort of rabbi who he was aquainted with and perhaps a friend so I would not be so quick to tar and feather MJ with the anti-semitic label.
However curse his weakness for drugs and alleged chid molestation but the biggest curses should be rained down on those blood sucking scum whore doctors who catered to his drug wishes and to his so- called friends, family and hanger-ons who looked the other way even aiding and abetting his craves with the possible exception of his sister Janet and one of the brothers. For example, that skin doctor of his, Alan Klein, can anybody actually believe a word he says, would you even ever consider buying a used car from him? If the investigators have any guts, they would hunt down these doctors and throw the book at them.
his memorial was just another ploy to get people to watch it on the t.v. and so that that's more important than the real issues going on now like the economy, but to the average American its better to watch a celebrity get buried than it is to fix problems we all have.

Your lack of understanding and compassion over the life and death of Michael Jackson disturbs me generally. Michael was a gentle, talented, complex and troubled person who loved perhaps not wisely but too much. Was he a pedifile, I think not. You back fence gossipers and fear mongers made up your minds way before his day in court, where, he was found innocent of all charges. You can't let that go, can you? For shame on you from the shadows where you hide and spout your lies and half truths. Michael was a superb entertainer, musical innovator and a good father. Sure he looked differently than most, acted as he liked outside the norms you, his accusing blowhards call politically correct or sane. He was unique and we all know that the blind, deaf, dumb and frightened indiviuals through out history have killed their prophets, stamped down anyone who seemed different and forced them into molds of conformity against one G-d given right to be free. As for his money, Elvis Presley's estate racks in one million a week, Marilyn Monroe 35 million a year. Michael's wise investments during his lifetime will keep his posterity wealthy beyond belief forever. Think residuals on his music and those title he owns and you'll understand, if your limited minds can concieve of that much money. Be careful out there, your hypocracy is showing and there are people out here like me who will point you and it out when every your evil meets the net.
Many who comment here miss the point. He was an entertainer, and an accomplished one. All other issues aside does that justify the accolades, memorial, excessive media attention, and public idolization that followed his death? Is he more to be canonized than those who have given their lives for our nation and the freedom of others? I do not think so. It is an example of mass hysteria by a segment of our populace that has no true heroes and so elevates a minstrel to satisfy that need. Undeserved.
I think people didn't realize until it was too late

To the one who said he was anti-semitic -- what a bunch of hogwash. The lyrics from They Don't Care About Us is "Beat me, hate me
You can never break me
Will me, thrill me
You can never kill me
Jew me, Sue me
Everybody do me
Kick me, kike me
Don't you black or white me"
From the lyrics here, he is just saying stop labelling. He's actually asking people to stop judging others by what or who they are. To call him anti-semite is to judge him, and quite frankly I'm tired of people judging him after his death. The man is gone now and he can no longer defend himself. As far as I am concerned, if he did harm those children, well God's justice will prevail, but he's got a living family and living children that are capable of being hurt by these comments. If he didn't harm those children, you are slandering him and you will be judged the way you judge others.
Billinthewild has it right.
Jackson will be remembered as the pedophile who bought off parents with money. That's hardly a memorial anyone would want, but in his case it was true.
P.S. Ok, I just learned what kike means. I didn't even know that that was a slur -- I thought he was just filling in the song. OOPS! But he still isn't here to defend himself and I believe that vengence belongs to the Lord. It's still not up to us to judge him.
I have a different take on the whole media madness and "King of Pop" phenomenon. Take a look and let me know what you think: http://davidrheins.blogspot.com/
Check out michael jacksons ghost on cnn where larry king was touring the house!

MJ is gone, so why can't people just leave him alone and have some respect for the deceased rather then making slandering comments. It's like the old saying "if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all". That's what my mom taught me. Come on people the man just passed away. Try to give a lil respect.
His personal life was his own. So what if he changed his appearance, so many people/actors do (even those of you that didn't like him probably do, using hair gel, make-up, sun tan lotion, etc.)
My gosh, he was a person too that had feelings, and his family are people too that have feelings.
God gave him a gift to entertain and he entertained us, God gave him a soul of a child that is why he loved so much and hurt so much, he was a humanitarian, just look at what he's done with his money, giving to charities, helping children.
So what if he spent thousand of dollars on stuff, bet if you had his kind of money you'd be spending it to.
Everybody has different beliefs, that's what makes the world go round. He wanted peace like so many people I know. People get stressed out and do things they shouldn't, it's part of life. As long as it doesn't hurt or kill anybody, it's just part of life, and I don't know if he really hurt anybody by his actions.
I'd like to thank the Jackson family for putting the memorial on television for his fans. And so what if it make money later on, it was for his millions of fans that couldn't be there. I for one really appreciated it.
I myself being selfish, would love to be able to go to Neverland and see the kind of surroundings he had.
If you watch one of the interviews he gave, he laughs like a little kid when he gets in one of his racing cars, which I think just showed he had a heart of a child.
Let the man rest in peace.
A few years ago, Rabbi Schmulley Boteach worked with MJ for two years, trying to get him to straighten his life out. Unfortunately, he wouldn't listen, and attempts at anything like an intervention would fail -- MJ had enough money to make his "NO" stick. Pile up any number of people to tell him he was in trouble, and he could buy ten people to claim otherwise.
After two years, Boteach left, rather than watch someone he had grown to love destroy himself.
In the "Twelve-step" programs, they say a person can't be helped until he hits bottom. Enough millions can buy you a lot of space between yourself and the bottom, even if you're falling very fast indeed.
A Marine said it best....
Why is it that when ONE man dies, the whole of America loses their
Minds with grief. When a man dies whose only contribution to the
Country was to ENTERTAIN people, the Amercian people find the need to flock to a memorial in Hollywood, and even Congress sees the need to hold a "moment of silence" for his passing?
Am I missing something here? ONE man dies, and all of a sudden he's a freaking martyr because he entertained us for a few decades? What about all those SOLDIERS who have died to give us freedom? All those soldiers who, knowing that they would be asked to fight in a war, still raised their hands and swore to defend the Constitution and the United States of America. Where is their moment of silence? Where are the people flocking to their graves or memorials and mourning over them because they made the ultimate sacrifice? Why is it when a soldier dies, there are more people saying "good riddence," and "thank God for IEDs?" When did this country become so calloused to the sacrifice of GOOD MEN and WOMEN, that they can arbitrarily blow off their deaths, and instead, throw themselves into mourning for a "Pop Icon?"
I think that if they are going to hold a moment of silence IN CONGRESS for Michael Jackson, they need to hold a moment of silence for every service member killed in Iraq and Afghanistan. They need to PUBLICLY recognize every life that has been lost so that the American people can live their callous little lives in the luxury and freedom that WE, those that are living and those that have gone on, have provided for them. But, wait, that would take too much time, because there have been so many willing to make that sacrifice. After all, we will never make millions of dollars. We will never star in movies, or write hit
songs that the world will listen too. We only shed our blood, sweat
and tears so that people can enjoy what they have.
Sorry if I have offended, but I needed to say it.
Remember these five words the next time you think of someone
who is serving in the military;
"So that others may live..."

MJ did have antisemitic leanings. Besides the "Jew me/sue me" song there was a "frozen/chosen" lyric in another song. When asked about it, he said his accountant was Jewish, as if that absolved him.
He was not found "innocent" in the child molestation trial, he was found "not guilty." Good grief! He had a peep hole, lock and warning system surrounding his bedroom! He had no credible romantic relationships with women, and his interest in children was pretty much confined to boys.
Well, first, I HAVE been to Neverland, and there was no peep hole or warning system in Michael's bedroom.
I knew Michael well, and I don't think he ever had any anti-Semitic leanings. Now, maybe the lyrics to some of his songs were not to everyone's taste, but Michael didn't care what religion or color a person was.
As far as being "just" an entertainer, Michael was much, much more. He was a great humanitarian as well. He's in the Guinness Book of World Records as the celebrity who donated the most money to charity. Michael donated almost as much money as he spent on himself.
About the first charges of sexual molestation regarding Jordan Chandler, brought by his father, Evan Chandler, Michael did NOT want to "settle" for any amount. He wanted to go to trial since he was innocent, however his insurer thought he was too fragile emotionally to endure what might be a prolonged trial, so they settled against Michael's wishes. Later, tape recordings of Evan Chandler talking about "setting Michael up" surfaced.
Regarding the second instance of charges, Michael was found NOT GUILTY.
I think Michael made some strange and unwise choices in life. For example, it was wrong of him to marry Lisa Marie Presley in an attempt to "rehabilitate" his image, but it was also wrong of her to marry Michael to "cash in" on what she thought would be a music career. It was unwise of Michael to let children sleep in his room, let alone his bed, even though he never shared the bed with them, and all was innocent. But who among us hasn't made a wrong or unwise choice? I think we have at some time.
I don't know for certain, but I've always suspected Michael of being asexual. The one thing I think previous posters got right is that he never had a romantic relationship with a woman. He never had one with a man or boy, either. He simply had no sexual leanings. That makes him "different" from most, but not bad.
I believe in supporting the American soldiers in Iraq, Afghanistan, and anywhere else. I believe in supporting them most by bringing them home, however my love for my friend, Michael, does not diminish my appreciation of what my country's soldiers do for me.
As for Michael being a drug addict with needle marks all over him, why on earth wouldn't that have been detected during his four-hour physical for the insurance policy AEG took out on him?
Michael was a beautiful but tragic human being. All his adult life he tried to make the world a better place, a place of love. If everyone would try to do what Michael tried to do all his life, we would have peace.
Very interesting posts, but has anybody every thought that he may have been possessed by an evil lost soul? Ever since the Pepsi advertisement where he got burned, he has never been the same since, with ever more increasing odd behavior. Even if you look at some of his lyrics, they seem to be screaming out for help.
say the least-there must have been some psychological problem.... really weird in fact...his children would have not even noticed growing up however. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I think this is a lesson for tolerance and acceptance in humans that are not quite like "US". Where were the doctors to help in, not to aid in his destruction. Did he indeed have Lupus...it may explain the need for painkillers.... hail the truth... whatever he found joy in his kids and they in him... Do not let Joe create thejackson3
Oh, please, people! If you quit reading the supermarket rags and research, MJ asked the insurance companies to not settle with the children's parents on the ped cases. AND he was found not guilty in a court of law~ There are "rumors" on the net that sources say the kid recanted and his mother coached him through the accusations. They "needed" the money.
It is time to stop judging. He has a family..he has kids. And you tarnishing their daddy's memory is abuseive... So what does that make those who judge? Child abusers?
Michael was a beautiful but tragic human being. All his adult life he tried to make the world a better place, a place of love. If everyone would try to do what Michael tried to do all his life, we would have peace.
I'm quite sure that he may have had many human qualities, bu, with all due respect, Michael Jackson was mostly a person who had very serious psychological problems, who changed his skin from black to white, who had zillions of plastic surgeries and who had a - to say the least - strange relationship with children.
The fact that his weird behavior is seen by so many fans as normal, or even to see him as some sort of modern saint as some do is, I'm sorry, just a syntom of the decay of our society.
I also agree with those who ask: where were all his friends and fans when he was doing all those crazy things and wrong choices? That's right, no one cared then or even laughed at him. But now he's dead so he's important again and everybody loves him. Whatever. I think he was just a very unhappy person who had too much money and too little judgement.
My father objected to my listening to The Beatles. I listened to them anyway, I learned to play guitar and progressed to other kinds of music. I recognize Michael Jackson's talent. He would have been famous just for writing "Billy Jean" but, on the other hand, if you have given me professional musicians, a studio and a few million bucks at age 17 (and allow Quincy Jones to do the arrangements) I could have done as well, I think. I am glad I got to listen to music. I would not have known Gershwin, Jobim or Mahler if it wasn't for those four Liverpool kids. The personal life of MJ was appalling. He went from being a Jehovah's Witness to being a Muslim. I don't think his pea brain was any good for th deep problems of religion and ethics. Better live it at that: he wrote quite a few good songs and was a great dancer and entertainer. The rest we better forget.
That's quite a philosophical view on the purpose of people watching the coverage. What I personally find far worse is how all the big TV channels and the record labels will try to make super-profits out of Michael Jackson's death. The showing of the memorial is just one example - how much advertising dollars will they have made out of that worldwide. It would be best if his works become public domain - he is no longer going to profit from them and in my opinion no one else deserves to be able to.

What really bothers me is a comment I read that said, "Michael Jackson brought out the best and the worst in us." To bring out the worst it has to be there. We each are responsible for ourselves. Michael isn't responsible for those who treated him cruelly because they were simple and couldn't put themselves in his shoes. Let's bring back compassion/empathy.
does any1 really admire michael jackson he was mad!
It seems to me that there are two kinds of people leaving their comments on here. Those that are haters, syncs, they think they know everything and feel the need to be nasty and horrible instead of focusing on the good in someone they focus on the negative. Pathetic! Maybe it’s to make themselves feel better or maybe they want to showcase how intelligent they think they are. I’m sure they have never made a mistake in their life! In my opinion they are the ignorant ones! How can you be so judgemental and hurtful. Shame on you!
Then there are those who have compassion, understanding and love in their hearts and an open mind. They choose to focus on the good in people. How can anyone truly know what happened. We will never know the truth but I choose to see Micheal Jackson in a positive way. He was truly a magical soul, an amazing creative genius and one of the most generous people the world has ever known. RIP MJ!
I hear about him in conversations in the office, in the streets, and I also see lots of discussions about him on the internet. A tribute was even performed by the famous dancing inmates from the Philippines.

I to am amazed that no-one in his family saw the need to say Michael could not care for himself and we have got him the care he so dearly needed. He did not deserve to go the way he did and I do think the hangers on/money grabers are alot to blame. Every one bleed him dry, His only joy in his last years were his children and now they are being torn apart in the papers over who is DADDY and who should care for them. Many couples use IVF ect and no-one questions who the parent is so why so in this case. Michael reared and loved his children and that should be enough for everyone. I have alot of empathy for Michael, I was not a big fan, and do believe he was very alone and sad as a person and that is the point, he was always a BIG STAR and never a person with feelings. I hope this media frenzie will so be over and his children can be left alone and Michael at last rest in peace.
Shocking that so many people make hardened opinions based on what they read and hear in the media. The only people who know if Michael did anything inappropriate with children are the two people in the room. Everything else is conjecture and speculation. Michael Jackson doesn't fit the prophile of a child pedophile - and since EVERYONE who knew him describes him as a wonderful loving person who could not hurt a child, it would certainly be contrary to everything we know about pedophiles if MJ did hurt a child.
MJ was an artistic genius. Those of you who cannot see that, are simply too ignorant to understand what that is. You based your negative opinions on looks, appearance and lifestyle that are different from your own. That is called PREJUDICE. Also, how could MJ, who had a childhood, upbringing and youth, so completely different that anything we know, or anything that could be considered "normal", become anything other that what he was?
Clearly, an artist and humanitarian is not the same as a soldier who dies in battle for his country. But, Giving respect to one, doesn't disrespect the other. We cannot have civilized society without artists and humanitarians - through art, we can work through the struggles of our daily lives - relationships, etc - without great artists, we would be no more that a guerillas in the mist.
The media behaved disgracely during MJ's life and after he died - but that is not MJ's fault.
I totally agree with the post above. Thank to that anonymous person and hope pp leaving MJJ's children alone and last rest in peace Michael even though I am not a big fan of Michael but still I have empathy of his life and death that made me cry for weeks
I used dance to the JAckson Five when I was a kid. As I did a lot more music. Only God knows what the man did . I was relieved to read from Andre Crouch that Micheal had asked him and his sister Sandra to come and visit him. He asked them lots of questions about Christianity and allowed them to pray for him. This was about 3 weeks before his death. Andre said that no sinners prayer was said, however, God gave him a chance as He said He would give us all.
I do agree that there was too much ado about his death, which is from media seekers. There is a lot of death and disease going on right now. God is pouring out His wrath as He said He would on the unrighteous. He is also pouring out His Spirit on His people. Live today for your GOd people, put Him first. Remember the 1st commandment. He must be FIRST !!
God Bless
I realize that this is past but now the family are trying to say that Michael Jackson was murdered, by the nation of Islam.
They also say that he was just a puppet that another controled him.
I know that the family is at a loss for a time they'll say all sorts of things as to exactly how he died. In the long run they'll have to move on as he is dead.
The Jacksons have every right to question the reason behind the death of Michael....it was definitely suspicious. They need to have these questions answered. Imagine if it was you son or father or sibling or cousin who died suddenly - would you not want to know exactly what happened to them? Especially if the person had wealth that everyone knew someone else wanted!
Regarding the mourning soldiers thing....These soldiers were not famous...the general public did not know the names of these soldiers before they died, so it is unfair to expect the same level of public mourning for them no matter what the reason. The media make a celebrity...then the public expect the media to find out every little detail about their lives so we that we can scrutinise every aspect of it regardless of hurting their feelings or invading their privacy. So if the celebrity dies, does that mean we should not mourn them? All the fans of Michael Jackson are upset and sad that he has died. If Julia Roberts died tomorrow her fans would understandably be sad. Would you be saying that we should not mourn her and we should mourn the soldiers instead?

I am not sure about the anti-semitic references. I read that Michael had Jewish friends....I remember reading about one in particulaer when MJ made his Oxford address. I am disgusted by the comments re being a paedophile.......... I would have alock on my room if I was him....oh for some peace and sanctuary from prying eyes. Even all this stuff about post it note reminders---I write notes all the time, reminders and comments to keep me focused on what is important, even some biblical fridge magnets. It is a lesson-becareful who you trust........such a tragedy.
