Buggy Whips
Fears of a financial collapse and the increasing need to find an alternative to gasoline powered automobiles got me to ask myself "what kind of technologies could come to our rescue?" And "what kind of changes are we going to have to make to our lifestyles?" Musing over the two questions resulted in the bittersweet humor of today's snide cartoon. Oughta use the buggy whips in the goverment when they propose the really idiotic stuff!!

Loved the cartoon.
I teach a course in Systems Analysis at Humber College in the Computer Engineering program. One of the examples I use every year is that of "The Consolidated Buggy Whip Corporation" around the year 1920. Sales are down and I ask students as "members of the board" how they should handle the problem. The usual answers are increased advertising, blow up Detroit, sell more to rural markets or countries that haven't adopted the automobile. Its an exercise in correctly defining the problem. By redefining the company as being in the "Leather Accessories Business" they start to suggest leather seats for cars, jackets and marketing to the S&M crown. I've never heard your rickshaw suggestion.
The exercise is already done for this year, but may I have permission to use your cartoon in class in the future?

Your cartoon on the rickshaw whips are an exposure of our American government planning ahead for our future.
It's why they want all the illegal Chinese and Mexicans in our country. Somebody's gotta pull the rickshaws.
With the American economy in crisis, and with the ambitious rises in China, maybe your suggestion/prophecy isn't so far fetched! China also plans to take over the world!
