Al Gore

Okay, so the Nobel committee awards the Peace Prize to Al Gore. What's really going on you wonder? Here's the view from Iran. A longish analysis from yesterday's Tehran Times:
"The awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to former Vice President Al Gore is a political statement by the European bourgeoisie about the policies of the Bush administration and the politics of the United States. Rarely has there been such an open intervention by the European ruling elite in the internal politics of America. The political significance of Gore’s selection is clear, given that he is still an active figure in American politics, widely mentioned as a potential presidential candidate, who has on occasions attacked both the foreign and domestic policies of the Bush administration. At the very least, the award can be taken as a signal from the Norwegian political establishment - from which the selection committee is chosen - that it hopes for a Democratic victory in the 2008 presidential election. -more

It kind of makes a mockery of the Nobel Peace Prize in my opinion!
its funny , thje ones most criticial of the gore prize are my fellow jews. whats your problem? since when did environmentalism becomes political?
if bush got the award for the war on teyr would you also pair him up with fellow prize winners arafat and carter or would you be singing his praises?
this is so silly. environmental consiousness is not a partisan matter, it is a real one for everyone. It is not environmentalists fault that the deep welthy arab oil money pockets of the people in washington had to go and make it all so political to hold on to their arab oil billions.

If Bush got the Environmental or Peace prize, I'd faint.
a nobel prize in the sciences for gore, might have been acceptable, even though I disagree with the politics. But I would really like someone to explain to me what environmental activism has to do with Peace.
However, since the science in Al Gore's Religion of Global Warming is phony (as recently attested to by a court in the United Kingdom and on of the top meteorologists in the world) he should have won the Pulitzer Prize for fiction. He could not have won a prize for science since all he did was fund (and front) a propaganda film that did not get the science right.
Actually, the British court noted that nine facts presented in the film were not proven in court to be valid. Based on the ruling, the film was approved for screenings in schools with the requirement that these nine errors be corrected with an announcement prior to viewing.
I am unclear as to what the judge's qualifications are for making this determination. But regardless of these nine erroneous facts, the THOUSANDS of other facts, as well as the basic premise, evidence and overall conclusion were fully supported by the court ruling. That overall conclusion is that global warming is real, is caused by man and can be reversed through human activities.
So, please do not mistake a peer-reviewed scientific conclusion with a religious belief.
One thing I will agree with is that the Peace Prize needs to be given a twenty to thirty year buffer between action and award. This is basically how the other Nobel Prizes are awarded, which eliminates the short term successes and gives credit for lasting advancement.
I think that explains the Arafat win. At the time, most of the world really thought things were changing. (And I think, for a time they did)
But it was not lasting. Time would have shown that the peace was not lasting...or, who knows...if it needed to wait until 2020, looking back, we might see that it really was a turning point. We won't know until then.
But by giving a requirement for a passage of time prior to giving the Nobel Peace Prize, such controversies would, no doubt, still exist, but would be minimized.
Wake up people....global warming is the new 'fear'. When I was a kid I worried about nuclear bombs, now its global warming.
The science is weak at best and there are many more explanations such as solar flare activity. Its being branded as truth when its not provable.
It's another legacy of that silly man Darwin and mans idolatry of himself in assuming that he can destroy and fix this planet.
The best place for man/woman is on his knees asking G-d what to do and not Al Gore.
So shoot me...I don't believe the hype.
I don't know about you, but I am STILL scared of nuclear war.
Even if global warming isn't real...many of the methods for combating the phenomenon will help us create a more sustainable planet and take our place in concord with the ecosystem that we live in.
So, even if you don't believe in the "hype", you can benefit from the "solution".
It does devalue the award for Peace, based on a political diatribe with a footing in faulty science and a scam in the marketing of carbon offsets...
Can anyone say Emoperor's New Clothes?

I agree with your premise and part of being a good steward of the world is to properly farm and look after the ecosystems. I feel however that we already have the knowledge to do this.
The problem that I have with the whole climate change thing is that its all aimed at getting the man in the street to pay...your average joe who is already taxed to the hilt. While the big guns keep jet setting around. I mean how many carbon miles has Al Gore clocked up. The truth is that the US is the worlds leading consumer of fossil fuels and it should be the one to address this but its countries like the Uk that are getting the pinch the most...we not only pay double what the US pays for gas but we will now be charged for every mile we drive.
For me its all about control of the man in the street and keeping him as poor as possible. I personally have a very low carbon footprint...I have never taken one long haul flight and have only owned a car for 8 of my 35 years. But its me that will be forced to pay the price for all those others who refuse to stop jetting around the world.
What are they writing there? Who's deciding on the Nobel Prize??
"...an open intervention by the European ruling elite in the internal politics of America..."
-> They call the Nobel Peace Prize comitee "the European ruling elite" ? Such a nonsense ...
How can you award a Nobel Peace Prize to one of the persons that helped launder the money to create the Neuclear Weapons....Global Warming Duhhhh...He knows if Russia mealts we all go away....
